The tie of the round and I’m expecting goals. Brazil rode their luck to beat Japan but the quality of Vini Jr and Cunha should be too much here, so 5/6 to win is my best bet.

Norway are no pushovers though, they’ve scored 18 goals in four games and Haaland has found the net in every one, so I’m not backing Brazil to keep him quiet. Both teams to score and over 2.5 are the plays, with Haaland certain to get his shots away as always.

England have stuttered through this tournament and now face the hardest test going, a Mexico side that has won all four at a fortress Azteca without conceding a single goal.

Kane is the difference for me though, he’s bailed England out time and again and I still fancy them to edge through, hence England to qualify in my double. It won’t be comfortable, both teams to score and England having the most corners as they chase the game.

Morocco are the real deal and 5/6 to win is my best bet of the day. They held Brazil to a draw in the group and knocked the Netherlands out on penalties, so this is a top side hitting form at the right time.

Canada have ground their way through with a perfect knockout record but they remain a work in progress, and I fancy Morocco to have too much. It should be a tight, tense one though, hence Under 3.5 alongside them going through.

🇫🇷 PARAGUAY v FRANCE

France look the team to beat. They won Group I with a perfect record and 10 goals, then brushed Sweden aside 3-0, and Mbappe is flying. Paraguay shocked Germany on penalties but they did it with next to nothing going forward, just two goals in the whole group, and I can’t see them living with this France attack.

I expect France to score freely, which is why 3+ of their goals is in my double, and a beaten Paraguay side will rack up the fouls and cards chasing it.

Egypt are the value for me at 11/8. They came through a tricky Group G unbeaten in normal terms, holding Belgium 1-1 and drawing with Iran, and they carry far more of a threat than this Australia side.

The Aussies were toothless in the group, just two goals scored and an xG averaging well under one a game, so I can't back them to trouble a solid Egypt. Under 2.5 fits that in the acca and Egypt to score anchors the bet builder.

Card Bet: J.Irvine 5/1, booked in his only start at the tournament.

🇦🇷 ARGENTINA v CAPE VERDE

Argentina won all 3 group games with Messi helping himself to six goals already, and they only conceded once all group so win to nil is my acca leg.

Cape Verde have been the story of the tournament as the smallest nation ever to reach the knockouts, but they've done it with three low-scoring draws and next to nothing going forward. They'll sit in and foul to survive, hence the cards, and Messi to find the net is the obvious one.

🇨🇴 COLOMBIA v GHANA

Colombia to win

M.Senaya 1+ foul

Colombia won Group K unbeaten, seeing off DR Congo through Munoz and holding Portugal to a 0-0, and they're the better side here. Ghana scraped through third on the back of low-scoring games, a 1-0 over Panama and a goalless one with England, so I don't see goals flowing. Colombia to win with Under 3.5 is the shape of it, Munoz to get a shot away and Senaya to give fouls up chasing them.
