@MarcosMimch269@ChadMoriyama Cool. That's really not the point, though.
Dave Roberts won your team a pennant before they went on to win the World Series. That's awesome for the Sox, but also objectively funny.
Trump: "I didn't go to Congress. Remember Sleepy Joe? 'Oh, if they would give me approval in Congress!' You're not gonna get approval. You just do it. You're the president."
@nickygsmustache Some owners who aren't willing to take the player payroll risk stil look for other ways to invest in their teams to try to win without the big payroll, like the Rays and Brewers.
Some are happy to just sit back and collect their revenue sharing money, like the Pirates and As.
@nickygsmustache One variable is risk aversion.
Teams that can win consistently make the most money. However, if an owner spends big to win and it doesn't work, they will make less money. They'll still make money, but a lot less.
Some owners are willing to take that risk, others are not.
@chriscfore@purpledrank0 Google what an escrow account is, my friend.
A 3rd party holds the money. They invest it at the Dodgers' direction. It must contain pre-determined balances at a certain point every year. Any excess goes back to the Dodgers. After 10 years, $68m goes from the 3rd party to Ohtani.
@SouthJerzGiants@ByronHutson@redturn2 Yeah, that's why I want to read the study the other dude mentioned. Really curious how they tackled that definition and how they designed their experiment and controlled variables.
I think you and I are very much on the same page about it not being a fact. Very hard to prove.
@SouthJerzGiants@ByronHutson@redturn2 Same here, would love to read that.
Following on what @SouthJerzGiants started with, I'm already of the OPINION that hitting a baseball is the hardest skill in sports, but I want to be able to represent it as a FACT.
@redturn2 I think the part about hitters getting put in a box is particularly interesting coming from you. When you broke out with the Dodgers, so many people tried to apply the leg kick and exit angle that helped you to every player, whether those things might actually help them or not.
@atrupar We needed a heliport because they land a lot of big helicopters?
Which they've been doing for decades just fine without a heliport?
In other words... we do not need a heliport?
