@AndSlavery @Demerara1823 Earlier resistance on this plantation too: in 1804 Morris of Success, an Ebo, was seen as influential and dangerous. He had been offered the position of King of his nation but said he refused. Morris was sent out of the colony. Quamina would know this history.

Gaiutra visited the Highlands in 2009 when she was researching her book. While she isn't aware of any direct familial links to the country, she says that 'as Indo-Caribbeans, as descendants of indenture, as Guyanese, we all have Scotland as a fatherland.'
Journalist and writer @gbahadur, author of 'Coolie Woman: An Odyssey of Indenture', agrees that people in all countries involved in this system should learn about the history and its legacy.
