Congratulations @FiguerolaLaura for the great effort to build robust models for four of the most emblematic gorgonians in the Mediterranean sea. #proudsupervisor
It is so motivating and enriching to find time to think, yet so difficult! Many thanks Matthieu @sedimorph@durham_uni for these two days full of science and good vibes @GRCGM@UniBarcelona.
Special thanks to IAS-@sedimentology for the support that made it happen :)
🚨 New paper alert! Really excited this one is finally published, now available online & open access!

🚢 The FARDWO D2 cruise has come to an end! An international team effort to better understand the Denmark Strait overflow.
Thanks to @utm_csic and @AgEInves for making it possible!
And with the best farewell we could have 😍
The FARDWO-DS2 cruise onboard Sarmiento de Gamboa is almost over after a long week of collecting data, sharing knowledge and admiring northern lights in the Denmark Strait near Greenland
While sailing on the Denmark Strait we received the great news that we will be funded for next three years to come back ando do research on overflow water and its interaction with topography. funded under the bilateral call of the DFG-AEI.
This fantastic team of scientists managed to recover a mooring that was sitting at the slope of the Irminger Sea, taking measurements of Temperature, Salinity and Current velocity for an entire year. Congratulations @aneguet77@DavidAmblas@elpiratavell
Campanya oceanogràfica FARDWO DS2 a l'Estret de Dinamarca. A la recerca del desbordament d'aigües fredes i denses de l'Àrtic! ❄️🌬️🌊
Gran equip a punt! 💪
DSOW here we come; thanks for this opportunity @lolailolei@aneguet77@DavidAmblas. First time on a Spanish vessel, firts impression: what a luxury on the menu :)
Scientific retreat in the wonderful Les Llosses. Time for discussion on water masses, sediment transport, proxies and rats, new ideas and projects... with amazing food and a great group of people!
The 2nd International Conference on Seafloor Landforms, Processes and Evolution took place in Lipari, Italy, from July 1st to 3rd, 2024. The conference attracted over 100 participants and included 73 oral and 31 poster presentations. The event wrapped up with an (1/2)
The study reveals the self-similarity in canyon–fan long profiles, uncovers Hack’s scaling relationship and proposes a formula to estimate fan volume using canyon length, validated by global data from s2s systems, providing insights into deep-water sedimentary processes.
A new collaboration with Steven Y.J. Lai and colleagues to investigate the long term morphodynamics of submarine canyons using microscale tank experiments. So much fun! so many learnings!

Steven Lai and colleagues have used a novel experimental set up to explore the influence of active tectonics on submarine canyon morphology:

This study explores the creation of submarine canyons and hanging-wall fans on active faults, which can be defined by gravity-dominated breaching and underflow-dominated diffusion processes.
