The Homathko Delta produced many more landslides (blue bites out of the delta lip below) than I had dared to hope for! Including some right below the stationary sonar boat (at the yellow dot). Thanks @royalsociety for enabling this research!
A busy few days collecting sediment cores from the lobe of the Congo Submarine Fan! Already splitting the cores and seeing some fascinating deposits and trends across the lobe...🤔
CTD being deployed in the Congo Submarine channel on #DY173. Interested to see how much of a turbidity maximum there is in the channel for our water sampling!
First ADCP being deployed in the distal channel of the Congo Submarine Fan on #DY173. Perfect weather for it! 😎 Fingers crossed it stays there for the next 14 months 🤞🤞
Great to see @rgenglert’s OA paper out in GEOLOGY showing how upstream-migrating bedforms form in submarine channels. It’s not all about Froude number… https://t.co/a3THoaFdW0 w @the_subtender @Moving_Sand @sedimorph@sedflow
The call for abstracts for the 2nd International Conference on Seafloor Landforms, Processes and Evolution, which will be organised in Lipari (Italy) in July 2024, is now open.
The deadline for this call is the 15th December 2023.
Turbidity currents (sea floor sediment flows) form the deepest canyons & longest channels on Earth
This new Review by Pete Talling et al. summarizes the knowledge of turbidity currents gleaned from direct monitoring

Great day talking anything monitoring and modelling of turbidity currents at the Osaka Insitute of Technology with @MiwaYokokawa38 and @HajimeNaruse of Kyoto University. Exciting new neural networks options and subaqueous debris flow experiments!
Started today at @HokkaidoUni to work with Prof Izumi and Dr Wu on applying their latest computer model to the enigmatic migrating knickpoints in Bute Inlet (Canda). Thanks @royalsociety for funding this research and @MaartenHeijnen for producing this beatifull fjord floor gif
15th IAS Special Lecture Tour 2023-2024 – Last call!
