I could not agree more. Where would we be had the "Greatest Generation" not thought in terms of obligations to serve the greater good rather than pursue their own life, liberty and pursuit of happiness? This is just one, powerful example. We have obligations.
This basic difference in outlook is something that I think we need to ponder much more deeply. We must find a re-balance after centuries of overweight on the "I have rights".

Social emotional health in a school is established through relationships and requires an intentional focus on building a culture that sustains them and keeps them working towards a shared vision.
I read this book in college and it has continued to shape my interactions with others through disagreements. Avoiding labels, seeking understanding, and caring about the perspectives of others demonstrates true empathy and gives room for difficult conversations.
Thanks to Ian @Symmonds for putting forth thought provoking ideas about how education might evolve post-pandemic. Two of my recent blog posts capture the thoughts his blog stimulated for me. https://t.co/GIfP9G6PcH @NAISnetwork@SAISnews

The research phase of these conferences is so critically important as it gives us an opportunity to hear how the student is thinking about the mathematics at hand. Once we understand that, we can design instruction accordingly.
Students need differentiated instruction in math, just like they do in reading. Try applying the 1:1 student conferencing model.
