As expected, Google is making sideloading harder on Android… but it is NOT going anywhere
Here's the new way in simple steps:
• Turn ON Developer Mode in settings
• Confirm no one is forcing you
• Restart your phone and unlock again
• Wait 24 hours, then verify with fingerprint / face / PIN
• Now you can install apps (7 days or always)
More steps, but you still have the choice
This is my device, bought with my own money… just let me use it however I want.
I want to install APKs whenever I want, sideload apps, unlock the bootloader, root the device, and run whatever I choose. It’s my phone, I paid for it, and I take full responsibility for it.
If I make a mistake, that’s on me.
Stop forcing restrictions on everyone and treating users like they can’t decide for themselves.
Viva la resistance! The Android community has spoken and revolted on the issue of sideloading and developer verification, and Google has listened!
"Empowering experienced users
While security is crucial, we’ve also heard from developers and power users who have a higher risk tolerance and want the ability to download unverified apps.
Based on this feedback and our ongoing conversations with the community, we are building a new advanced flow that allows experienced users to accept the risks of installing software that isn't verified.
We are designing this flow specifically to resist coercion, ensuring that users aren't tricked into bypassing these safety checks while under pressure from a scammer. It will also include clear warnings to ensure users fully understand the risks involved, but ultimately, it puts the choice in their hands. We are gathering early feedback on the design of this feature now and will share more details in the coming months."

Google should learn that having non-tech celebrities for the Pixel event is total cringe. Who is the audience for this, really ? Someone like Dieter Bohn or even Marques would have been a great pick or just Google staff !
Jimmy Fallon being excited about IP68 is too much for me to handle 😅 !
@AssembleDebug@buttermilkoreo I assume that if you're rooted, it probably won't be all that useful even on the Pixel 10 series given that all of the on-device Gemini Nano functionality doesn't work with an unlocked bootloader.
@kevinslife2@MishaalRahman I don't see a problem with this. If a user decides that they want to install apps from questionable sources, then they should be responsible for accepting the risks that come with it. The Play Integrity API is also not a good solution since it restricts user freedom.
