Hello fellow scholars, as I was walking by the library I stumbled upon students reading books in between the halls. I find it fascinating to see a variety of books and various reading levels of reading comprehension, but does reading benefit students academically?
@KrashenStephen Wow! I never realized reading can allow for vocabulary and spelling improvement. However, not many people read in their alone time, yet alone for pleasure. How do those scholars have the ability to recognize words and understand its meaning?

@MohammadNazzem@reid__smith@GenePOuellette@KrashenStephen If anything, reading benefits in areas of working memory, vocabulary knowledge, word recognition, reading strategies, etc. The list goes on and the next thing you know, you can start developing reading as a hobby ๐๐งก
@MohammadNazzem@reid__smith@GenePOuellette@KrashenStephen Very interesting debate! Our thread opened my eyes to pleasure reading and gaining vocabulary techniques. I definitely agree with you all. Psychological or educational, there is no harm in picking up a book and start reading.

It doesnโt matter whether students can read passages, but if they can predict & store words while decoding. This being said, a childโs depth grows over time the more you read
