I gave my grandmother a stuffed animal, she was surprised when she opened the gift, but she enjoyed having it.

Many people have told their stories of how kind and generous Dolly Parton was. Her impact was much more than most people appreciate.

My five-year-old granddaughter received a book from her ‘friend’ Dolly. Tonight she will be sad to have lost Dolly, but her memory will live on.

Her three-year-old sister will continue to sing Jolene, even if she knows only the first two words.

That is an interesting way to alert a story follows. i think I will start a similar signal with my wife. Sadly at my age I will also have to write myself a note to remind me what story I want to share.

My wife and I have a rule. If one of us quietly says, “Chapter Seven,” it means, “I have a ridiculous story about someone in this room, but I’ll tell you later.”

Last month, we were at a friend’s engagement party. About halfway through the night, I froze. Across the room was a woman I briefly dated in college.

I casually took a sip of my drink and whispered, “Chapter Seven.” My wife didn’t even turn around. She just smiled and said, “Blue dress?”

I blinked. “You already know?” She laughed.

“No.” “But you’re terrible at acting normal.” The rest of the evening, she never asked another question.

We talked with friends. Ate dinner. Took pictures.

Then we headed home. The second I started the car, she looked at me and said, “Alright…”

⚠️ Important Warning for Writers Using PayPal

If you're transferring money to editors, marketers, proofreaders, or other freelancers, do not rely on PayPal.

In a recent transaction, PayPal accepted my payment, immediately marked it as “complete,” then later decided they didn’t approve of the recipient. They are now holding the funds indefinitely — refusing to release the money to the intended recipient or refund it to me. They appear to treat the money as theirs once it’s in their system.

This is not an isolated incident. PayPal has a well-documented history of freezing funds, delaying transfers, or outright holding money with little recourse for the sender.Recommendation:
Use a more reliable payment method such as:
Wise (TransferWise)
Bank wire / ACH transfer
Stripe
Payoneer (with caution)
Credit card (when possible, for better buyer protection)

To me the big question is balance of $$ to pages.
$25 for a 115 page book (absurd) is a no for me.

$15 for a $200 page book (reasonable) okay.
Then it is the author, premise, story for me.

@goblinsearch I do wonder how much attention readers pay to length when choosing something to read - especially when it's an ebook and they can't see the physical thickness.

If they want to pay all the logistics for a personal event okay. But at an event that is paid by tax payers as a rite of passage for a large group of people that believe the world needs moments of contemplation and dignity NO!

The faculty and the public have expectations for the event. Some students and some parents need to learn to respect and throw their little fits on their time.

@AuthorGoodwin You had a negative comment on this post, focus on the positive. The truth is there are so many books out there it is hard to pick which one first to read. There are also lots of readers with varied tastes. Enjoy the ones you selected--treat yourself schedule a time.
