Diversity & Inclusion. Women in EP. Leadership across bias. #EHRASummit2026 — Tallinn 🇪🇪

Uncomfortable questions. No easy answers.

What does it mean to build a career in EP without a template? How do we make modern electrophysiology accessible — regardless of gender, geography, or socioeconomic status?

Country perspectives from 🇳🇱 🇹🇳 🇪🇸 reminded us: barriers differ, urgency doesn't.

Electrophysiology should reflect the patients it serves — in its workforce, leadership, and science.
That work continues. 💙

💬 Dr @DavidDuncker is joined by Dr @FudimMarat to explore the critical early-risk period after heart failure diagnosis and the role of wearable cardioverter defibrillators in preventing sudden cardiac death.

📊 Insights from the 19,000-patient SCD-PROTECT registry reveal that one-third of shockable events occur within the first 10 days post-discharge.

#EHRAtopicweek on Sustainability in EP

✅ Reusing pacemakers and catheters is:

🩺 Safe — The recent Europace #EHRA_ESC Young EP survey found that over two-thirds (67.8%) of EPs have used reprocessed materials, most viewing them as safe and cost-effective. Published studies show complication rates below 1% when reuse follows validated protocols

⚖️ Ethical — Reprocessing helps make EP procedures available to more patients, especially in regions with limited access

♻️ Sustainable — Reuse reduces costs and environmental impact by cutting waste and conserving high-value materials

We’ve just concluded Plenary Session 5 of #eSPACEHF2025, chaired by Dr. William Abraham and Prof. Mitja Lainscak.

Prof. Biykem Bozkurt highlighted the higher risk of sudden cardiac death in real-world HF patients and emphasized that ICD implantation reduces all-cause mortality in primary prevention recipients on contemporary GDMT. Dr. David Duncker discussed the role of wearable cardioverter-defibrillators and strategies to avoid untimely ICD implantation.

Dr. Carsten Israel shared data on prevention of sudden cardiac death in HFrEF with optimized pharmacologic therapy. Prof. Michael Böhm presented insights on myocardial oxygen consumption and blood flow in severe cardiomyopathy with left bundle branch block. Prof. David Duncker provided practical approaches for rhythm management in HF patients.

Next up: If you missed the Meet the Expert: Implementing Guidelines for ATTR-CM Diagnosis and Management – A Case-based Discussion (Replay, 18:10–18:50 CEST) with Prof. Olivier Lairez and Dr. Ahmad Masri, you can watch it on demand.
