Petty won but said "If there had been another lap in the race, somebody else would have won because neither one of our cars were going to make it back."

An Allison fan tried to fight Petty afterward!

Just heard the very sad news my dear friend Stirling Moss has died. He was my hero and such a kind man beloved by everyone. He was a true giant in our sport and will be missed forever. My deepest sympathy to his devoted wife Suzie. Rest in peace, Racer.

Hawthorn was at first disqualified , losing seven points. However,Stirling Moss had seen the incident which caused the disqualification and went to the judges to reverse the decision. Stirling lost the World Championship as a result.
