Too much money is tied up in OpenAI and Anthropic, and if they were to fail by whatever means, that would be more painful (both directly financially and by sentiment) than influential stakeholders and this administration are ostensibly willing to accept (a lot of feasible contagion, esp in private markets). Regulating ourselves out of global competitiveness is ok as long as it serves the interests of a certain few.

The self-interest in profits at any costs is to a large extent a (but not only) self-inflicted root cause why we’re in the predicament of being usurped by the Chinese in the first place
