@Dommm1996@mattbramanti NY with the cameras is weird... Technically because the human driving is not visible to the camera, the penalty is to the car, not the driver, bc they can't prove who was driving. If you're pulled over by cops you can get points.
@brollAmerican@MindofTorres Weird though that, like, all the social sciences/history jumped simultaneously in 2024. That definitely looks like a standards change
@IsaacKing314 B is pretty clear- if the crime required you not believe the animal child survive, the prosecution would have to prove that; this way it's on you.
@JamAhlDall@ThatchEffendi Communist hard-liner was a common phrase in the 70s/80s for Soviets against Western negotiations... I think for Iran the term has just been encased in amber since our issues with them date to the same period
@nathan_eatssoup@arthur_spirling I mean "you and all your friends and whole support network lose your jobs at the same time" is directionally similar if not quite as dire
@LoganDobson But the point is anthropic doesn't want to make an M17 at all in the analogy. It's more like if Quakers owned Ford and had a contract to sell F150s to the government, and then the government told them they had to build tanks instead, because they're both motor vehicles.
@Klug_Slabbrain@LinkofSunshine Generally probably yes, but n of 1, I've lived in NYC for 20 years and never been a crime victim, but had things stolen 3x in 2 years living in Europe
@Felgavi@HistoryBoomer I think city residents do get used to the per capita, and this explains these cultural disconnects between city and suburb residents as upthread... It's like our brains calibrate to our local per capita, but have difficulty generalizing to unfamiliar densities.
@porksouvla20069@mattyglesias How does the mandate for crowd pleasing architecture get implemented without regulations? Speaking as someone whose building just needed to go back and forth to the landmarks preservation board 6 times before being allowed to fix our leaking brick wall.
@VoxRogamus @TrevithickDavid @palford16@FailsRepublic@Danofran Oh ye of reading news pre-2022, remind me, when Yanukovich was elected, was his platform to seek EU membership or EAU membership?
