If you understand that obesity medicine is at the core of a rational and effective approach to chronic disease management, it becomes clear that obesity medicine needs to be a core competency of family medicine.

Yet that is not enough. To make this knowledge effective you need funding to support structured supports around the family physician and the patient: behaviour change and lifestyle programs, access to effective pharmacologic therapies, and support for bariatric surgery.
