@KySportsRadio@DrewFranklinKSR Question - is there any other coach right now, in any sport, who is getting anywhere close to the level of ridicule and meme-mockery that Pope is getting? Is this already in "national joke" territory or is it purely localized content?
Seth is talking about a guy who tore his ACL last February and a guy who is a career 29% three point shooter, but sure let's pretend Quaintance was ever going to play more than a handful of games and that Lowe was an All-American.
People like to dunk on Kentucky's $22 million roster, and for good reason. But let's remember this team's two best players basically never played. The only time they were on the court together was when they came back to beat St. John's. Hard to overcome!
1. Kentucky has a real shot at a No. 6 seed on Selection Sunday.
2. Almost seems certain that Kentucky won’t play on Wednesday at the SEC Tournament.
3. UK would have a very real double-bye shot if Alabama beats Tennessee tonight. Might not even need a Florida win to get it.
Every 11 years when I start to get over Kentucky losing to Wisconsin in 2015 I'm destined to see something like this and go right back into a trauma spiral.
135 Years of College Basketball and our one team to get to 38-0 had to play the Highest-Rated Analytical Offense in CBB History in the Final Four
Can’t make it up
@DanWolken I get what you're saying and I'm not directing the criticism at you, but it's pretty lame to constantly hear Kentucky fans get blamed or lectured when the on-the-court product has been legitimately poor for a sustained number of years.
I don't understand how it's Kentucky fans' fault that Calipari stopped being able to win SEC and NCAA tournament games, or how it's Kentucky fans' fault that Pope was a bad hire, but I'm open to being enlightened, @DanWolken
If Pope doesn’t work out the Kentucky fan base is going to catch hell for years but the reality is Calipari needed a change. Let’s not rewrite history. It was stale and he was becoming miserable. He has been better and more fun at Arkansas.
@DanWolken I hear you but is it also Kentucky fans' fault when cbb media push lazy, contrived narratives? Cal was too hardheaded to even remotely change, and Mitch Barnhart rush-hired - and has since tied up millions of dollars on - a guy with zero proven track record of high level success.
@KySportsRadio Matt, all seriousness, why would you not make a decision to move on from Pope right now? He's a nice guy but it's 100% clear that this was a mistake. What's the argument for waiting 15 months or even 15 more minutes? If it was your call...
Florida is now 5-4, just like Kentucky is. They have an almost identical resume as Kentucky, but they also have a loss to a TCU team who has lost to New Orleans and Notre Dame. Why aren’t we talking about Florida the same way that we are talking about Kentucky? #BBN
@RowlandRIVALS Make the case for me for not making a decision right now. Today. I feel it's obvious this is not going to work and it was a bad decision. I know Mitch would never, but when you know you know. This is just clear to me. You can't be given $22,000,000 produce this and keep your job.
@KySportsRadio Matt, tell me why you wouldn't fire Pope right now. I know Mitch would never, but I mean this in all seriousness. When you know you know. This isn't going to work. You have to fix a mistake now rather than wait years.
@SeanFennessey Do we think Jim Kringle was always Jim Kringle and his last name just maybe gave him a slight leg up on admittance to the Christmas Adventurers Club, or did he change his name to Jim Kringle after joining?
