EXCLUSIVE:
Andy Burnham is expected to appoint a former Blairite cabinet minister who is one of his oldest political allies as his chief of staff as he seeks to overhaul No 10
James Purnell, who served as pensions minister, culture secretary, and work and pensions secretary in the New Labour governments of Sir Tony Blair and Gordon Brown, is the frontrunner for the role, The Times has been told
He is said to be viewed by Burnham as a “serious figure” who is capable of implementing his radical plans to reform Downing Street and Whitehall
The pair, who entered parliament together in 2001, shared an office as novice Greater Manchester MPs, with Burnham representing Leigh and Purnell holding Stalybridge & Hyde
Burnham frequently joked that he was overlooked for broadcast interviews in favour of Purnell, who was educated in France and Surrey
Purnell is chief executive of Flint Global, a major PR and lobbying firm, a role that may present issues over potential conflicts of interest in government

Saw an American lassie tweeting that she has paid an Etsy witch to make sure Scotland beat Brazil so the Tartan Army come back to Massachusetts and that's the kind of can-do American attitude we can learn from. I'm sure I have a book of spells somewhere......
The facade of Alexander "Greek" Thomson's Egyptian Halls has finally started emerging from behind the scaffolding after nearly 20 years. Follower Robert Leckie shared this cracking image, taken from the ScotRail bothy across the street.

Peter Murrell's actions amount to a "significant breach of trust", Judge Lord Young says as he sentences the former SNP chief executive to five years and three months after he admitted embezzling more than £400,000 from the party
Follow live reaction: https://t.co/JkFC3bX8Rf
So if Peter reimburses every penny, are the crown office/police bound to return all of the embezzled assets? Or are they sold and then the outstanding balance only is repaid by him? Very odd predicament for embezzlers to have the available funds for proceeds of crime.
@InFearOfKeir@BritainForTrump There are already layers and layers, it needs to be completely overhauled. Easily managed through voluntary redundancies and non replacement of roles over time.
About time we had a Greater Glasgow Mayor with responsibility for East Dunbartonshire, East Renfrewshire, Inverclyde, North Lanarkshire, Renfrewshire, South Lanarkshire, West Dunbartonshire.
