Busy day today. Working with St Barb’s and Worcester Norton Shooting Clubs we were able to put on a #VickersMG and Lewis firing demo and rifle
shooting experience for over twenty A Level students. We will do a write-up and share more footage on patreon soon.
@KennyEdw@HistoryExtra This was during the 1939-40 Winter War, a conflict which damned Communist parties in Western Europe who didn't know how to respond. This illegal invasion, which was part of the Nazi-Soviet Pact, pushed the Finns into co-belligerence with Nazi Germany.
@teachlearnwar@OWALPodcast @ein_haus @CWGC I've used some of CWGCs' work for the SWW and Italy. We teach that as a front of 16 nations. But access to easily made resources certainly helps. I admit I'm a nerd and will happily work on this all day, but I know of others who would avoid teaching the FWW if they could
@OWALPodcast @ein_haus @teachlearnwar Plus, many feel more comfortable teaching the social aspect. There is still quite a fear that any 'hard' military history is disengaging for girls, etc... those old tropes. This is, of course, anecdotal compared to the mentioned study.
@OWALPodcast @ein_haus @teachlearnwar As mentioned in the pod, every school does its own thing, but you can definitely see some trends. History teachers are often reflective of ongoing issues. The BLM movement had a huge impact, In this case, it's done well to globalise the war.
@HistoryBowsh@almurray Sad to hear - I was in Canterbury for my undergrad from 2010-2010 and lived around the corner from the Jolly Sailor for a year - many good drinks were had there
Preparing for some filming with @blackmoreheal tomorrow for content for schools for the @vickersmg some really cool videos are planned that can be embedded into lessons.
If anyone has requests, please do let me know.
A promise kept.
24 years ago I visited the grave of Alfred Hargest, killed on the Somme.
In June, I saw his brother James Hargest, KIA in Normandy as NZ's representative for the D-Day landings, in Aug 44.
Today, I saw Geoffrey, James' son, killed at Cassino, March 44.
Another open evening done, this time 6th Form. Representing @vickersmg again who kindly lent us the MG. This connection has been massively beneficial to our 6th Form students and we have some amazing plans on the way
New GARDEN infographic. Added the 8th Armoured Brigade and 12 KRRC's 8 #VickersMG as well as updating the other Motor Battalions from 4 to 8 MMGs. 280 guns!!!! #AlwaysLearning

@MissFolorunsho I use it to upload all my PowerPoints, and have separate tabs for linked extended reading and revision resources Inc. Links to videos. My 6th formers liked it, I tried to get them to upload their wider reading notes but many struggled with that, so reverted to paper for that
Congratulations to our wonderful Year 13 students. Over a third of their grades were A* or A, 60% ranged from A* to B, and a quarter of our students achieved AAB or better in their subjects. We are so proud! #Classof2024
