I dunno, to me, it didn’t feel like an odd thing to say. I felt like I understood it clearly.
The Gausmans seemed to both legit love their time in Toronto and were genuinely heartbroken having to leave and having this phase of their life be over.
So the “focus” being on baseball and trying to look at the positives in their current situation means to talk about things like real grass, which ofc is slightly but legit better, and that ballpark is legit nice and beautiful.
Can’t talk about losing a phase of your life, a group of wonderful friends, and an attachment to being blue jays, so hey, let me tell u my focus is baseball and the ballpark is nice too. So let’s f’n go play baseball and let’s f’ing go as Cubs.
Lol that’s what I think.
@CBoulding Counter argument to this is that they’re just doing their shopping this offseason opposed to next where they have around 95M coming off the books. I think they’ll be fine with having a high payroll for one season if it comes back to their usual next season
#BlueJays Dylan Cease ⚾️🧵🪡
Midnight (9pm Pacific) Thread (Let's get nuts)
⚾️Why we should have seen this coming
⚾️Things that have been said (& some that haven't)
⚾️What I really like (and questions I still have)
⚾️A true test of actual vs expected
Let's start here: He nasty.
This Toronto lineup is scuffling on a historic level right now. The Blue Jays went 9-for-90 (.010) over their three-game series in Houston. That's the second-lowest batting average in a three-game span in franchise history.
Woof.
@DownToBlack It still wasn’t a horrendous move however. And imo, true mistake of the move was going to Kikuchi over a diff lefty reliever. And your overall point still stands. Whether move was made or not, wasn’t why they lost. The offence is terrible and that is 100% on front office (Atkins)
@DownToBlack Here’s something else that the equation is missing. The psychological aspect of it all. How did it affect the Twins and Jays players by executing this move? It’s incalculable ofc, however doesn’t mean it didn’t affect the game outcome. Human players have emotions. It matters.
@DownToBlack To me, this was a bad move b/c once you take into account everything you’re talking about, then add on the psychological downside effect of the move, it is not worth the likely few % increase in predictive analytics. Lower that % enough and it’s just noise. Nowhere near concrete
@DownToBlack I think the comparison here should really be against 2nd time thru numbers, and not 2nd+, because it isn’t a fair comparison to include any 3rd time thru numbers whatsoever
@blue_jay_john@ShiDavidi Man.. we could’ve had Moreno at C and Lourdes at LF and had just slightly worse outfield defence and way more offence…. That trade really killed this team’s offence
@ArdenZwelling@bnicholsonsmith …And I believe that should be ultimately the job of the manager. To balance the measurable with the immeasurable. But that skill likely comes with experience, which unfortunately Schneider lacks, merely from the reality that he is only in his first full year of being a manager.
@ArdenZwelling@bnicholsonsmith Was just listening to your latest podcast ep, and I think the stats that Arden was talking about (Berrios against LHB 4th inning onwards) has a big flaw. Mainly, 4th inning onwards is isolating not only 2nd time through LHBs… 1/2
@ArdenZwelling@bnicholsonsmith At the end of the day, these are human beings that are playing the game, not emotionless robots. So we must take into account the psychology and emotional aspects of the game and how it may affect players, even if it is impossible to measure and quantify…
