@One_Advaita@KashPrime It’s not exclusively Jewish, obviously, no neighborhood is, but CDN is culturally and historically tied to Jewish communities. Hence the Jewish General Hospital, Segal Center, Snowdon Deli, etc etc. take it up with CNN, CBC…
@niuqapimiar@VoisinSt The Pointe is an “Irish” neighborhood, Little Italy is an “Italian” neighborhood but they aren’t the majority there either…it’s about historical and cultural impact
@niuqapimiar@VoisinSt Yup, I’m born and raised in CDN-NDG. No one said “the” Jewish neighborhood, it’s “a” Jewish neighborhood. That doesn’t mean only Jewish people live there lol, it means it’s a neighborhood that the Jewish community has an imprint on…you aren’t aware, doesn’t mean it’s not
@niuqapimiar@VoisinSt Being the largest ethnic group is irrelevant. Italians aren’t the majority group in little Italy but literally everyone would describe it as an Italian neighborhood.
@MacroPsychoKine I don’t think the argument is that the attack was specifically ON / TARGETING the Jewish community, but to disregard that CDN isn’t a noticeably Jewish neighborhood would be dumb (I’m not saying majority, I’m saying cultural and historical significance). There’s a distinction.
@Thegreatone604@bruce_mcgonigal@GadSaad CDN has more of Jewish presence, historically and culturally, than 90% of the boroughs. Now, does the shooting have anything to do with that, who knows, but just re: CDN-NDG, yeah CDN is arguably one of Montreal’s “Jewish” spots.
@5dawejel3miya It’s not exclusively, no, like every single neighborhood in Montreal, but C-D-N is absolutely one of the few neighborhoods with a historical and cultural impact, more than other neighborhoods
@Notwithsitting@terrynewman No one said it was. The larger point was that Cote Des Neiges can be considered a “Jewish neighborhood” (NOT exclusively) because of the higher than average Jewish businesses, hospitals, commerces, residents, restaurants, etc…I’m not sure why you are stuck on that
