@DavisGSee NARCISSU is one of the very first VNs I ever played and informed how I see the entire medium, and was a formative work of writing for me besides. In a way, both DESERT OF ASH and NARCISSU are road trip stories. (12/?)
@DavisGSee After I’d been working on DESERT OF ASH for a while, I found out about another gay post-apocalypse VN: WHO WE ARE NOW. Of course I had to check it out, and I’m happy to say we have very different approaches. WWAN is worth checking out! (11/?)
Our work is not done!
A ceasefire is only the most important first step to end the genocide against the 2.3 million Palestinians in Gaza.
Without massive pressure, it may constitute a continuation of a less visible form of genocide that Israel and the US hope will provoke less regional and global outrage, boycotts and sanctions.
Boycott and pressure these companies now for their complicity in Israel’s occupation, apartheid and genocide against Palestinians.

@DavisGSee I’m happy with our current soundtrack, but if I could add another artist it would be 65daysofstatic. They’re always been the soundtrack to the apocalypse in my mind, and I listened to them a lot while writing DESERT OF ASH. (10/?)

@DavisGSee THE LAST OF US PART II, like the first game, informed my thinking about apocalypses, but the sequel specifically got me thinking about community, survivalism, and violence. About sticking together vs going it alone. (9/?)
How did I settle on a title for this thing? I talk about that in a new devlog.

Mark your calendars! End 2024 with the Citrus Con gang as we relive some of our favourite moments from #CitrusCon2024--December 14 starting 10AM and going until the going gets got
Amnesty International’s new landmark report concludes that Israeli authorities have committed – and still are committing - genocide against Palestinians in the occupied Gaza Strip.
Full report, out now.

@DavisGSee The Atelier Dusk trilogy is another set of JRPG inspirations. These depict a slowly deteriorating world, but they maintain the Atelier series penchant for chill, good times. They show how to be kind in an apocalypse, and to have hope. (8/?)
@DavisGSee An influence on both DESERT OF ASH and AVALD is Jacob Geller’s video “Artificial Loneliness”. He talks about the way walking alone through games can instill a special kind of loneliness; I’m aiming to create that feeling, too, in my own way.

The ICC charged Netanyahu and Gallant with criminal responsibility for withholding humanitarian aid and deliberately starving a civilian population.
Meanwhile, Biden and Blinken claimed no such thing was happening. It is unreasonable to single out Netanyahu. Biden and Blinken should be charged as well
@DavisGSee DESERT OF ASH is not my only desert-set work. I made A VAST AND LONELY DESERT around when I was starting on DoA, and it also involves a lot of wandering through a flat landscape. I think the two works have a lot of thematic carryover.

Been spending less and less time here lately, unfollowing folks as they migrate to the better place. You can go ahead and follow me over there too: https://t.co/RcYhOIdzsU
I love the classic, PS1-era story structure of JRPGs, of an overarching story told through the vignettes of the towns and areas you pass through. Similarly, DoA is built up over smaller encounters. BREATH OF FIRE IV is a particular inspiration on the texture of DoA. (5/?)
In Castle in the Sky (1986), the people of Laputa do something amazing: they realize that no one should have as much power as they do and give it up willingly. Of course, it's not enough. That power must ultimately be placed firmly out of reach of anyone who might abuse it.
