Dear PM @narendramodi , NavIC was conceived, approved, and begun under the UPA as India’s own regional alternative to dependence on GPS and other foreign navigation systems. The full constellation was completed and made operational in 2016.
Now, roughly 10 years later, it has effectively fallen below operational navigation strength because ageing satellites were not replaced in time and recent replacement efforts have been delayed or unsuccessful.
Hope you realize the seriousness of this lapse as we enter an era of geopolitical uncertainties.
I am not surprised by the way Europe or even Ukraine responded to Trump's invasion of #Venezuela and the abduction of its sitting President. Europe may be an economic powerhouse, but is strategically adrift. Europe lacks genuine strategic autonomy -- no matter what its leaders are saying -- and it can't stand up to the U.S., its security patron since 1945. I am also aware that Europe is so aggravated about Russia's invasion of Ukraine because it is unfolding in the continent, not because of Europe's universal commitment to the norms of sovereignty, territorial integrity and non-interventionism. There is no such commitment. After all, Europe has been an active participant in Nato's interventions -- one example is Libya where they destroyed the state and threw the country into deep chaos and civil strife. Or take the case of Iran and Israel. Europe has reimposed snapback sanctions on Iran in 2025, months after the Israeli bombing, because Iran apparently violated the terms of the 2015 nuclear deal which Donald Trump had destroyed in 2018 itself. But Europe will not lift a finger against Israel, an undeclared nuclear power, over its devastating bombing of Gaza, settlement violence in the occupied West Bank and multi-directional strikes in West Asia.
Where Europe could do better is by shedding its hollow moral preaching and selective high-horse riding. If your opposition to the Ukraine war is driven primarily by security concerns, just say it plainly, rather than preaching the Global South on international law and morality, etc. and asking them to take the same position. The problem arises only when you lecture principles one day while attacking Russia and then quietly cheer the American aggression in Venezuela the next day.
In @the_hindu today, I analyse India’s research deficit, call for a transformation of approach and urge the private sector to play a bigger part in research and development, instead of leaving everything to the government and the public sector:
Two recent books — Anand Teltumbde’s “Caste Con Census” and Trina Vithayathil’s “Counting Caste” — invite us to rethink what a caste census really means.
Teltumbde cautions that counting jatis may only reinforce identities and fragment the struggle for equality.
Vithayathil’s decade-long research on the 2011 SECC reveals how a political consensus on caste enumeration was buried through “bureaucratic deflection”.
Moral of the story: The question is not whether we count caste, but how. We must keep vigil at every point
We must move from a Census with a capital C — the Census of India — to census with a small c, the many censuses that can map caste across our economy, education and employment.
Only then can we truly see — and undo — the web of social inequality in India.

Read this piece written by @naukarshah how the subalterns are excluded procedurally on the grounds of technicalities from contesting elections. It's very significant to raise this issue in discourses.Because nowadays cancelling the candidatures become a part of Chankaya strategy

@naukarshah Independent Candidates are facing these problems more than the party based candidate because they do not have money to choose a lawyer or professionals to fill their nominations form
So Poland pulled off an important win at the UN yesterday by getting the Security Council to debate the Russian drone strikes on Polish territory, and Warsaw managed to get real backing in the room.
Even Hungary and Slovakia, usually hesitant to cross Moscow, stood with Poland.
The US ambassador also said the words that Donald Trump has never managed to say himself, making clear that America stands with NATO allies and will defend every inch of the alliance’s territory.
That’s no small thing. It shows Polish diplomacy can still get the West to line up when it counts, and it shows the value of pushing these issues onto the global stage.
But it also feels like a short-term win set against some worrying moves from Washington.
The same US that sounded so solid in New York is now cutting support for strengthening NATO’s eastern flank, and it is also reopening the door to Belarus by lifting sanctions and even talking about putting diplomats back in Minsk.
So Poland got the words it wanted, but whether it gets the actions is another question.
Pete Hegseth at the Department of War is due to announce the results of it review of troop deployment in Europe at the end of the month.
That's going to the thing to watch.
All media channels, digital platforms and individuals are advised to refrain from live coverage or real-time reporting of defence operations and movement of security forces. Disclosure of such sensitive or source-based information may jeopardize operational effectiveness and endanger lives. Past incidents like the #KargilWar, 26/11 attacks, and the #Kandahar hijacking underscore the risks of premature reporting. As per clause 6(1)(p) of the Cable Television Networks (Amendment) Rules, 2021, only periodic briefings by designated officials are permitted during anti-terror operations. All stakeholders are urged to exercise vigilance, sensitivity, and responsibility in coverage, upholding the highest standards in the service of the nation. 🇮🇳
