@peachyteachy @MatthewOldridge Maybe I’m sensitive because I’m stressed. 🙂My mom lives in WI and she just got snow so I get it. I thought since the fake background scene zoom offers shows only a students face and shirt, it was similar to class. Maybe it isn’t. I also agree about the connection issues.
@peachyteachy @MatthewOldridge I was just trying to have a normal conversation about it. You sound like you want to yell at me instead. I’m under a lot of stress myself and I don’t need to be yelled at. Twitter is rough!
@MatthewOldridge Finally, I feel like a lot of people have decided that teachers have lost their minds. I get it. I am a parent of a freshman myself. However, understand the teachers aren’t coming up with the structure on their own. They’re getting paid to and required to do this work.
@MatthewOldridge I don’t view it as surveillance. These are class times, not “all the time,” & your student would’ve had to show their face in class in person under other circumstances. Also, you don’t have to put the laptop in your house. If you prefer, you can sit on outside. 1/3
@MatthewOldridge If none of those things are possible/acceptable you can put up a virtual background. It’s part of the Meeting software. As far as everyone talking at once, that is something that the teacher can control easily with their zoom meeting settings and controls. 2/3
@madameaiello@AlexSVenet 😆 try moving around-sometimes you may disappear or appear to have no body...maybe you could get skin colored skin by repositioning yourself. Glad you’re getting somewhere tho!
@madameaiello@MuzakLisa @engageducate @AlexSVenet THAT is the equity issue. Here in my (Seattle) area, because of this emergency, we have tried very hard to provide hotspots and one to one laptops to all students.
@madameaiello@MuzakLisa @engageducate @AlexSVenet Yuck. If that’s so, I’m sorry. I assume this is your district – given laptop? The same as the student laptop?
@madameaiello@AlexSVenet I clicked on a drop-down menu next to the video button and it says “choose virtual background”. Then there’s a + to add an image-it goes into your storage/your pictures and you choose one for background. It automatically downloads an add-in if you don’t have a green screen
@TeachMrReed I ask if there are ?s: “What time is this class over?” I say, “look at the schedule on the wall.” They sigh. A few minutes later: “What time is it?” I say, “look at the clock.” They say, “I can’t tell time from that clock (analog)” (they’re in HS, before you ask). “Use your 💻”
