These are examples of prices increasing, not evidence that Nigerians are wealthier.

If a mason's earnings rose by almost 4×, but the cost of food, transport, fuel, rent, medicine, school fees, electricity also rose dramatically, then his real income may have stayed the same or even fallen.

The fact that a mason now earns ₦150 per block instead of ₦40 does not, by itself, prove that people are better off. What matters
