After serving an eight year prison sentence at the age of 17 I reentered society with purpose and passion. I use my music to teach & guide others, partnering with @YASP2, @CareNotControl, & other organizations to combat gun violence within the city.
On January 5, 2022 I will turn 44 years old and this will be first birthday celebrated in the free world in 27 years. Just being present is a present for me so celebrate with me
Several #CareNotControl members were featured in the recent #YCLJ Convening. Marcía Hopkins, @dayonenotdaytwo, and Brit Brown-Christopher talked about creating a better future for system-impacted youth during a panel called “Philadelphia Youth Leaders: A Vision for the Future.”
Claim #2: "Crime is out of control."
Response:
Crime remains at historically low levels.
The perception that crime is up is driven by hyperbolic media coverage and claims by opportunistic elected officials.
Property crime is at its lowest level in more than 30 years.

Powerful call by @DayOneNotDayTwo and David of @YASP2 family to end transfers of youth into the adult carceral system in Pennsylvania and everywhere!!!Feature on @PBS

Deep appreciation to @senbartolotta for her bill to end direct file in PA. Also respect to our colleagues at @YASP2 including @DayOneNotDayTwo for sharing their stories.
@jskdn@NewsHour@WmBrangham Now there’s a felony on my record. Young and in need of guidance I have another meeting with the law at age 17. But now I’m seen as a dangerous criminal with a history.
Our youth need mentors. They need advocates to help navigate through the criminal justice system.
@jskdn@NewsHour@WmBrangham At the age of 14 I was arrested for a fight with my brother. A family dispute that law enforcement had no place in. I was in juvenile detention for months without access to a phone. The only way I was told I’d get out was by signing a deal that charged me with aggravated assault.
Some states automatically charge juveniles in adult court for certain serious crimes, a practice known as direct file.
@WmBrangham reports from Pennsylvania, where there's a push to change that practice. https://t.co/x2wbLMPVYm
