@L_Garten The Seven Basic Plots was an interesting read, if "taking copious notes on the first half and skipping most of the second" counts as a read. I recommend it. It takes a look at the most common plots and why they work, and breaks each down into its sections and common characters.

@writersdigress @L_Garten Excuse me for jumping in! I prefer plotting to pantsing because I can be more careful with characters and plan my foreshadowing. Pantsing, however, has a certain insidious charm involving the freedom to write unnecessary scenes and surprise yourself with your own plot twists.
