FBI Director Kash Patel testified at an oversight hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee, where lawmakers grilled him over allegations that the FBI had become more politicized under his leadership and had targeted President Trump's political opponents. Senators also questioned Patel about the bureau's decision to relax hiring standards and allegations that he sought to intimidate journalists who reported unflattering stories about him.

Moreover, Sen. Peter Welch (D-VT) pressed Patel on the FBI's role in the upcoming midterm elections, asking whether agents would be deployed at polling places.

Patel said the FBI would have election-crimes coordinators in all 56 field offices and indicated that agents could be involved in addressing "election interference matters."
