@emcgillivray It was always something I wasn't interested in at all but the implication was that it obviously intellectually superior to whatever trite garbage I gravitated towards on my own. I generally refused to read them out of spite.

@emcgillivray My reading wasn't policed in quiet that way. It was always made clear to me that some books (by dead white men) had more value than others. I was allowed to pick out books but for every 2 that were chosen by me on a topic I was interested in, 1 would be selected for me.

@invisiblegirl99 @jlbthemd I have a friend who is ace, has had a hysterectomy and is on hormonal birth control and she always gets extreme skepticism when she tells docs she's sure there's no way she could be pregnant. @PlanetofFinks My favorite is when Star Trek characters reference their favorite media from 600+ years ago. Like, there's some Golden Age of Hollywood films that I love but do I think they're going to have the endurance of Shakespeare?
