Celebrating:
Grateful Dead | The jams, fans, lyrics and hippie anarcho-capitalism.
Liberty | Ron Paul, Austrian economics.
The shared cultures and philosophies.
At a time and place not of our understanding there were wise conversations...
with
Ron and Jerry
Q: How do you reply to someone who supposes they can use their freedom to try to drag you down?
JERRY: That’s the “freedom lie.”
There’s been a lie about what freedom is and the big lie is that freedom means absolutely and utterly free, and it really doesn’t mean anything of the sort.
RON: It is true that liberty is not free, nor is it easy. But tyranny - even varying degrees of it - is much more difficult, and much more expensive.
JERRY: The case in point is when you have your own scene. Somebody comes in and they’re free to move in, but likewise you’re free to tell them to get out.
Freedom is a premise that’s been put forth that’s been abused.
For any scene to work, along with that freedom there’s implicit responsibility – you have to be doing something somewhere along the line – there is no free ride.
RON: Freedom means not only that our economic activity ought to be free and voluntary, but that government should stay out of our personal affairs as well.
JERRY: If I have a flag to wave, it’s a non-flag.
But as a life problem, the Grateful Dead is an anarchy.
It doesn’t have any leaders. Or real organization.
And it works. It even works in the straight world.
It doesn’t work too good. It doesn’t work like General Motors does, but it works OK.
And it’s more fun.
RON: To be an anarchist... is a GREAT idea!

Explain how a sitting senator writes paragraphs describing wide ranging crimes committed by multiple govt bureaucracies on its own citizens, ending with:
“That’s why I consider this to be the biggest government scandal in my lifetime, and one that is crying out for full media attention and coverage.”
No threats of justice or accountability.
Just more senatorial whining that the media continues its long standing propaganda campaign.
😩
Thanks for nothin.
@Cloudchord@sacredmirrors As a sound guy, here’s the secret to compressors…
Turn all the knobs.
When it sounds better - stop turning.
Check you’re not in bypass to avoid looking a fool.
Class dismissed!
How did she give me a chance?
First time to make first impressions! Should have been a Fail!
Friday afternoon. Grateful Dead. Soldier Field.
Tickets, drugs, keys. Check.
She arrives. I'm not ready, as usual. Never ready. She looks so cute and innocent. True and partially true. Did she know what she was getting herself into? How could she?
Neither of us could have known.
Can't find my shoes, most likely. Sister egging me on. Mother just got home from work, doesn't want to be bothered - smile and nod, have fun!
Find my shoes, grab them, let's go. I can put them on in the car.
Running late. As usual. Get in the car. The drugs are in the car - forgetting luckily not an option. A relief that that does not become another search and rescue mission.
Many, many ounces stuffed under the driver's seat. How badly it must have reeked and yet beyond my perpetually stoned comprehension.
The little Toyota five speed gets us to the liquor store. Pick up a six pack of tall boy Old Styles and head for the Addison el stop.
Must have been blown away by the parking lot scene but no specific memories of it. We took it all in. My second show, her first.
Our first date.
Bulls going for their first three-peat. Game is shown during halftime on the big screens.
Only song remembered by memory is the encore, Liberty. A new song. Never heard it before. I was still learning the songs anyway.
She always liked Queen Jane Approximately. Was it from this show?
The cool rain got stronger as the night came to a close. No shelter at Soldier Field, especially not on the floor.
We stayed with each other all summer. And the next summer. And the next 31 years.
Pay attention out there.
The destroyers have learned a few things while dismantling Europe.
The call will come from inside the house.

MURDER MOST FOUL: RUSSIA RUSSIA RUSSIA
By M.C. Armstrong
How do you plot a murder most foul in the land of the free? How do you turn patriots into traitors?
Listen to the voice of Lyndon Johnson. Listen to LBJ as he describes to his friend, Senator Richard "Dick" Russell, how he, LBJ, bullied Supreme Court Chief Justice Earl Warren into chairing The Warren Commission investigation into the JFK assassination:
"Warren told me he wouldn't do it under any circumstances . . . He came down here and told me no--twice. And I just pulled out what [FBI director] Hoover told me about a little incident in Mexico City, and I said now, I don't want Mr. Khrushchev to be told tomorrow and be testifying before a camera that he killed this fellow, and that Castro killed him . . . And I think you can put on your uniform of World War I . . . And he started crying and he said, 'I won't turn you down. I'll just do whatever you say.'"
In short, if you want to make an American sell his soul, you say the word "Russia" and you deploy war as both metaphor and threat. How did "Lyin' Lyndon" compel a false flag attack on his own Navy? How did "Bull" Johnson help orchestrate the murder of a Navy veteran named John F. Kennedy? He delivered to Earl Warren the same gut-check that American "leaders" have been using to keep us at war for more than a hundred years: Russia.
Why should we support the war in Ukraine? Russia. Why did America and Israel kill those American sailors aboard the USS Liberty? To start a war with Russia and its ally, Egypt. How did Hillary Clinton silence a strong and gutsy JFK Democrat named Tulsi Gabbard? She called her a Russian asset. How did the mainstream media get America to go silent about @Snowden and Assange? They called them Russian assets, just as LBJ and J. Edgar Hoover did with Martin Luther King, Jr.
We are in the seventeenth term of Lyndon Johnson's presidency. JFK wanted to end the neo-McCarthyist charade. He wanted us to remember that Russia was our ally in the defeat of the Nazis in World War II. Kennedy wasn't a crybaby. He wasn't afraid of Russia. He wanted peace and gave his life for that noble cause. What about you, @realDonaldTrump? Do you have the courage to complete Kennedy's dream or will you drag us into yet another Forever War in the name of weakening Russia?
How long will our country be haunted by the ghost of Lyndon Johnson?
How do we end the haunting?
Peace.

The Dead were livin’ it large 🏈
On this day in 1993, the Grateful Dead closed out a two-night run at Giants Stadium, their tenth show at the iconic New Jersey venue. Both nights featured the one and only Sting as the opener playing his solo hits as well as classics from The Police. They closed out the stint with an encore of “Liberty” just 15 miles northwest of the Statue of Liberty

You get one life. The only thing that matters is what you do with it. Go do the thing. Live it.
Bernie Sanders is the anti-life. Because he represents the person who never does. Who spends the one life he got watching other people live theirs and resenting them for it. Whining instead of acting. Taking instead of making. Looking sideways at everyone else instead of forward at his own shot.
That’s communism. Never happy.
Don’t be Bernie.
Back from the dead 💀
June 3rd, 1976, saw the return of the Grateful Dead after a nearly two-year touring hiatus. The band plunged into their first performance of 1976 energized and eager after the long absence. To kickstart this new era, they would debut "Lazy Lightning," "Might As Well," "The Wheel," and "Samson and Delilah."

Almost 5 years to the day I had been working in a New York City Hospital
Took care of loads of patients that day, some of whom had COVID
I was healthy and testing my own COVID antibody levels [HIGH]
Had no interest in COVID vax, declined
Stepped outside end of long shift
Denied entry into two restaurants to eat because I didn’t have my “vaccine card”
Super hungry, had to walk almost half a mile to a convenience store to get some chips and candy to eat (literally the only thing!)
Y’all might be able to forget how crazy the world got. But I will never
And I’ll always have my guard up because it was the first time in my life I realized a supposedly advanced country with educated people was capable of extreme stupidity and crazy level rule-following
