Myself completely included in so many ways. I just simply do not get it. I don't think I ever will. Anyway, maybe no one sees this. I don't know. Peace out.
I'm logging off this whole hellsite ( to which I have completely contributed ) for good. However, after my unhealthy and somewhat unintentional descent into politics on here, I just can't help but ask, wonder, knowing I'll never ever get an answer:- Why is everyone so *certain*!
Throwing out evidence and papers does nothing. No one listens! All expertise, it's corrupt. Bought. There's a whole network of conspiracies and excuses as to why You Know Better. You *don't*. Everyone is just a bunch of conceited babies who cannot accept their own limitations
@YamiryuNoKage@seventhwhiskey@StatisticUrban I haven't run the numbers so if someone has or wants to and I'm wrong I will fully hold my hands up, but my intuition is that the homicide rate difference isn't nearly big enough to move the needle on life expectancy in any noticeable, meaningful way, because it's so rare
@VBotoku@RioVeradonir@fuckyouiquit This is meaningless without looking at what the incomes of people living there are. People in Colorado are obviously richer than people in Congo.
@thomasforth Like is it just we don't tax middle incomes very much, but we also don't tax high incomes very much compared to neighbouring countries, or usually comparisons leave off certain relevant taxes to make it look like we tax more than them? Hopefully this makes sense lmao
@thomasforth Dumb but genuine question ( I really don't know much about the minutae of tax ):- I've heard really common claims that the UK is really top heavy when it comes to income taxation. Is this true but it's still lower than neighbours, or are they fudging the numbers etc
@miketheunderdog@rcmacf This paper applies to small increases in areas with minimum wages that have been low and stagnant for a long time. The economic consensus is not that this applies to places like the UK, which has one of the highest minimum wages in the world. You're embarassing yourself.
@james_roe@StatisticUrban@BladeoftheS Even the article you've linked doesn't support anywhere near such a strong claim ( also, even 'hard' sciences have been implicated in the replication crisis )
@IrisDuane Really? The *majority*? I suspect even under a *very broad* definition of what lobbying means ( and I've seen some truly outrageous inclusions in this category ) this isn't true. Can you show us these statistics then?
@IrisDuane This really is just self aggrandising nonsense. Are most Labour MPs former London based lobbyists taking meetings in 'the city' and most Green MPs 'regular ordinary people' ( whatever that's meant to mean? ) Literally writing fantiction about yourselves.
