Connecting with @AnnieBrassey through letters, travels, diaries & objects @BexhillMuseum | Currently writing A Trail of Breadcrumbs | Research by @LouiseKenward
A chance discovery of Annie led me to caves in Borneo in search of @AnnieBrassey
She continues to grip me as I write and explore.
Part archiving & part new ventures, another chapter begins.

Threat or warning? Sent May 1913 to Hasting’s Police Supt at the height of local suffragette action. The house of an MP was burnt down a month earlier. The Institute (now Hastings Library) was never set alight, but May 1913 saw attacks on suffrage meetings #internationalwomensday
Sunbeam #Honolulu#Hawaii 31.12.1876. "We went on board & sat in the calm moonlight, thinking & talking over the events of the year, whose end was swiftly approaching & wondering what its successor may have in store for us. So ends...the now old year 1876." #Brassey#NewYearsEve

Eothen #Quebec#Canada 3.10.1872. "About 20 miles above Quebec the scenery became really splendid; the cliffs so high, with pretty villas nesting here & there among the chamelion-like foliage, that we could almost imagine we were in the fairyland of our childish dreams." #Brassey

Sunbeam, Bay of Biscay c.11-12.7.1876. Losing children overboard is one of the hazards of this type of voyage. "I asked her afterwards if she thought she was going overboard & she answered, 'I did not think at all, mamma, but felt sure we were gone.'" #Brassey children are tough.
@AnnieBrassey Very helpful. Thank you. Objects all giving me licence to write about my rambling wonderings and research - linking everything in one way or another!
Writing continues, haphazardly, persistently, intermittently.
Today, again, I return to #Borneo#swiftlets#caves & collections of @AnnieBrassey held @bexhillmuseum
Chapters have been deconstructed & reconstructed, stitched together & patched up with tape...to be continued.
@AnnieBrassey is this a similar flint do you think? Possible to think it could be a Clovis? It’s from the right area of Canada (Calgary, Alberta) but my flint knowledge is very small.
