Another successful Paris Defence and Strategy Forum. It felt like there was an expanded UK presence this year, and perhaps a growing realisation of the scale of what is required from
Europe. Thanks again to @ecoledeguerre for hosting us.

Russia’s latest war of aggression against Ukraine taught us many valuable lessons which we’re applying to bolster security in the Indo-Pacific. It was a pleasure to speak at @RUSI_org this morning to discuss how like-minded allies and partners are giving democracies an upper hand in shaping and mastering the changing character of war. People often imagine that each of London's private members' clubs are bursting with vast libraries. Not true.
Many have closed down - as underused as public libraries - or been converted into conferencing rooms. Many never had a library. This🧵looks at those which survive...
Branwell Brontë was born OTD in 1817. Poet Laureate, Simon Armitage, and I collaborated on a piece for @guardian a few years back, celebrating his often overlooked contribution to the sibling unit.

A dinner menu provided to funeral party guests travelling on McKinley's funeral train. The date in the bottom left reads, September 18, 1901, the day McKinley's funeral train arrived Canton, Ohio. This is an educated guess: It could be the date implies some of the funeral party stayed on the funeral train during the Canton memorial services. Either way, to see a funeral train menu is pretty interesting. (Picture from LoC)
The UK and several other countries withdrew funding from UNRWA due to allegations of personnel involvement in the Hamas-led attacks on the 7 October. @noahsylvia_, @EmmaButcher_ and Si Horne consider whether defunding was the best approach.

There was great work by @EmmaButcher_ and @cler_em to continue the relationship between RUSI and the Ecole de Guerre, and fantastic hosting by @acad_em. I can only hope French 'generosity' extends to the England rugby team this evening!
Really enjoying #PDSF2024 - representing @RUSI_org with @MTSavill and Paul O’Neill. A great afternoon of panels organised by @ecoledeguerre officers on the ever-changing ‘war for talent’ in the armed forces. Also looking forward to seeing @Justin_Br0nk speak tomorrow!
Thank you to @savechildrenuk on an important evening @UKParliament championing Ukrainian children and humanitarian/government voices on the war two years on, including a great speech from @grantshapps

So, you take away much needed Erasmus schemes through Brexit, and now you’ve done this?!
Why dissuade international talent from coming to the UK when it will cause huge financial and intellectual loss to our economy? Nonsensical, short-sighted, target-hitting idiots.
From today, the majority of foreign university students cannot bring family members to the UK.
In 2024, we’re already delivering for the British people.
Children continue to be caught up in wars across the globe. Revisit @EmmaButcher_#RUSICommentary on how children have been victims of war crimes in Ukraine.

Really upset about this - Prof Zephaniah was such an inspirational teacher and performer when I studied at @EnglishatBrunel. A great loss to the literary world.
