@sick_of_winning@vitriolandspite Sure but why is it still 1932 Germany and not something...better? We already did this four years ago and no one fixed anything or - as far as I can tell - even made any progress towards it.
@StVincentGrad23 Because punishing Americans writ large isn't the desired outcome, it's a side-effect of punishing Democrats in the hopes that they respond to that negative feedback next time.
@robert83047@EmissaryOfNight Let's say I want the state to recognize my relationship with someone of a different religious affiliation. How would I accomplish that?
How does that differ from how it would work if my partner were of the same affiliation?
@lennypepperwood@whstancil @chvddie I take solace in the fact that you will find the light of Democratic Socialism and join us in the sun, as it is God's divine plan and no mere man can thwart it. The sin in your heart will be cast out, and you will finally know joy in our holy chorus โบ๏ธ
@criticalurban@CaralhoPhilly@StreetwallNY@mr_saltz 8,000 fatalities due to inadequate infrastructure which contributes to lower quality of city and suburban life? Why would anyone oppose more and better ways to walk around one's neighborhood or town?
@BigMeanInternet@mr_sanford_lyl Sometimes I think of voting as something more like being a drug dealer. You get the person you want leverage over addicted to your votes, get them to the point that they rely on them outright, *then* threaten to withdraw those votes.
Idk if that's an accurate model though.
@rev_avocado@daveweigel What credit should be expected? Lefties I'm familiar with all agree that the withdrawal was a good move. What else is there for us to say?

Again, though, even acknowledging that war has costs necessarily implies that you are making moral judgements - what are the costs, how are those costs valued, etc.
You're making moral statements by definition.
@BoobyJargon@StVincentGrad23 > "The casual cruelty and indifference about the treatment of the world's dispossessed is distressing"
> "Focus on what's good in your life"
To me this sounds like a suggestion to ignore the world, not to practice self-care.
@BoobyJargon@StVincentGrad23 In the context of "I feel like we live in hell because of casual cruelty and indifference that we see every day", that seems like clowning on someone by *intentionally* being indifferent, which is itself a form of casual cruelty.
