I went to inner city schools all my life. They used to let the white kids out 15 min early before Spring and Christmas break because they'd get jumped. I didn't have to worry because I was a "Chico". In eighth grade I got jumped for my suede pumas by my friend Grant's cousin. (Grant was black) I didn't understand that my N-word pass had stipulations and could only be used around my black friends who gave it to me. I ended up getting my shoes back because I showed his cousin I had heart. I drove an Ice Cream truck in the hood and convinced two brothers not to rob me. I did repos for a rent to own company and I've had guns pulled on me by dope boys because I showed up to repo their mama's TVs and furniture and ended up buying weed from them. Real talk, I've got more street cred than some actual black dudes I know and I'll go to parts of the city they won't even go. I can get along with anybody regardless of race or color as long as they're not ignorant and they can take shit as well as they can dish it out. Girl, I'll be fine. And yes, I still have my N-word pass and use it quite frequently.

My first few apartments were in the hood. Living among black people changed me. I could write several books about the crazy behaviors I witnessed. I judge all people based on the content of their character, but I'd still rather die than EVER live in the hood again. It's like an open air prison .
