Canadian COVID-19 cases and current information.
Sadly our provinces are run by conservatives and they have stopped publicly reporting reliable information, so we must find other sources. Public health units report to Health Canada. https://t.co/dnQ0CNe0ML
Thoughts for today:
There's something that keeps sitting with me about the number 400,000. That's not a statistic. That's 400,000 individual animals - wolves that found their mate, bears that knew every trail in their territory, mountain lions that had been doing what mountain lions do long before any of us got here. Killed. Every year. With our tax dollars.
And now we don't even get to know it's happening.
I think about what it means to live in a country where the wilderness is supposed to belong to all of us — and then watch the door get quietly shut so we can't see what's being done to it. No notice. No comment. No record. Just gone.
The wild things don't get a voice in any of this. That's always been true.
But we used to at least have one for them.
No public comment period is open right now - but the organizations fighting this in court and on the ground need your support.

These groups are already in court. The forests and the animals in them are still standing. That's not nothing.
→ The bigger picture of what's being dismantled across every national forest in America right now - and why losing NEPA is losing the last door the public had left:

→ What Wildlife Services actually is and what it does in the dark - this is the program most Americans have never heard of, and after you read this, you'll never forget it:

→ The rule is final and the lawsuit is already filed - the Center for Biological Diversity breaks down exactly what was just taken from the public and what it means for every forest, every wolf, every bear on federal land:

The Trump administration just made it legal to kill 400,000 wild animals a year in secret. No public notice. No comment period. Just done.
The USDA finalized rules this April gutting decades of public participation requirements on 193 million acres of national forest. Logging, drilling, mining, road building — all can now be approved before the public ever hears about it.
That includes Wildlife Services — the federal program that kills more than 400,000 native animals every year. Coyotes. Bears. Wolves. Beavers. Mountain lions. Killed on behalf of ranching interests, with your tax dollars, on your public land. Now completely out of public view.
150,000 public comments opposing these rules were thrown out. Attorneys general from 17 states objected. Tribal governments objected. The administration didn't care.
"Information is power. Our voices are power. And the Trump administration is trying to strip both away so corporations can make a quick buck off our public lands." — Wendy Park, Center for Biological Diversity.
Who gave the government permission to kill 400,000 wild animals a year and hide it from the rest of us?

A converted Chinese-made Mugin-5 Pro kamikaze drone struck the Novoshakhtinsk oil refinery in Russia's Rostov region — the first ever Ukrainian drone attack on a Russian oil refinery.
Today, as fuel shortages and drone attacks spread across Russia, it's worth remembering that this entire campaign is a direct consequence of Moscow's own decision to invade its neighbor.
❗️❗️Russian strike UAVs often pave routes along the border with Belarus and use its airspace, — State Border Service of Ukraine
Russia expects that in this way the Ukrainian military will have fewer opportunities to shoot down drones.
My childhood friend died from sickle cell disease. She took her last breath right in front of me when we were only 13 years old. Knowing that a cure is now changing lives fills my heart with joy. May future generations never have to endure what so many families have suffered.
Um... Yeah.
He attempted a coup. He stole top secret documents and kept them at his country club. He would have absolutely gone to prison had he lost the election.
Report by Chief of the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine Oleh Ivashchenko. First of all, we discussed the implementation of our plan for long-range sanctions against Russia over this war and the steps needed to bring peace closer. In particular, among the recent successful target engagements on the occupier’s territory, it is worth noting the destruction of more than 60,000 tons of ammunition at a Baltic Fleet arsenal near St. Petersburg. In addition, analysis conducted by military intelligence confirmed that the designated targets of Russian military production facilities had been hit. Ukraine’s Defense Forces accurately struck Russian enterprises that produce radio-electronic equipment and other critical components for the needs of the Russian army.
Intelligence also obtained internal Russian documents with a real assessment of the consequences of Ukraine’s long-range sanctions. Measures taken by the Russian leadership in response to the situation have also been documented. One such measure is the redeployment of air defense systems from Russian regions to Moscow and to the Kerch Bridge. Basically, these are the two perimeters the Russians have been ordered to protect by weakening other areas on their own territory and in the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine. We will draw the necessary conclusions.
There was a separate report on the state of Russian missile production and strategic military aviation. We are preparing new, entirely just steps in response to Russia prolonging the war and its strikes on Ukrainian territory. It is important that as many Russians as possible come to understand that it is the Russian leadership’s rejection of diplomacy that is prolonging the war. Ukraine has put forward substantive diplomatic proposals. Thank you to everyone who defends our state and our people!
NAFO, I rarely ask for retweets etc, but will here. I think this is a very worthwhile account to follow for several reasons, not the least of which is that it is dedicated to logic and reason.
Take a gander and this very worthwhile account, and if you think it good, do so.
Iran left a note in SoFi Stadium's locker room thanking LA for its hospitality at the World Cup.
"From the ancient Persia of thousands of years ago to the civilized Iran of today, the spirit of Iran remains alive and steadfast."
"We came to Los Angeles with pride, competed with honor, and leave with dignity."
"May peace, respect, and friendship prevail among all nations."
During the election, Danielle Smith called the NDP liars and assured Albertans that:
"no one can jump the queue"
"no one can pay out of pocket"
"no one will ever pay out of pocket"
Premier Smith's election campaign was all lies.

Hamzah: How many?
IDF Soldiers: I don't know.
Hamzah: You don't keep track?
IDF Soldier: No, but I killed.
