Proud to share that, for further increasing the safety and confidence of women in our city, Kolkata Police is launching two more initiatives from today.
First, several all-women Pink Booths at key city intersections will be commissioned and be operational from evening to midnight, today onwards. My sisters in the city will be able to connect directly with the lady officers of KP for any assistance in these booths.
Second, today evening onwards, several 'SHINING' (as I have named them) all-women mobile patrol teams will also be on duty from 8 pm to 2 AM, patrolling E.M. Bypass and other major city roads used by my working sisters during night hours.
Kolkata continues to be the safest city in the country over the years and I am sure these two unique new initiatives will go a long way in furthering the same.
Shocked again!
Yet again, our Prime Minister aggressively displays his cultural insensitivity to great figures of Bengal. Today is the janmatithi of Yugavatara (God's incarnation in our age) Sri Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsadeva. While trying to hail the great saint on this occasion, our PM added an unprecedented and improper prefix to the great saint's name, “Swami”!
As is well known, Sri Ramakrishna was widely revered as Thakur (literally, God). While his ascetic disciples constituted the Ramakrishna Math and the Ramakrishna Mission after their Master's demise, and those monks were then called “Swami” as per Indian traditions, the Master, the Acharya, himself continued to be referred to as Thakur. The prefix “Swami” was meant for his disciples in the Ramakrishna Order; but the holy trinity of the Order remained Thakur–Ma–Swamiji. Thakur is Sri Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsadeva, Ma is Ma Sarada, and Swamiji is Swami Vivekananda.
I urge the Prime Minister kindly not to discover new prefixes and suffixes for the great Renaissance figures of Bengal who shaped modern India.
Is the @ECISVEEP of the view that directions of the Hon’ble Supreme Court can be openly FLOUTED? The highest Court of the land has repeatedly emphasised transparency, due process, and adherence to official channels of communication. Yet we are witnessing instructions being circulated over WhatsApp rather than through formal, traceable, and accountable mechanisms.
Even more disturbing are credible reports of Special Roll Observer, C. Murugan, issuing instructions regarding the acceptability of birth certificates directly to Micro Observers in a WhatsApp group, to inflate deletion numbers. Need I remind the ECI of the Supreme Court’s categorical directive that the role of micro-observers must remain strictly assistive? Why, then, is statutory procedure being bypassed, and under whose instructions?
Additionally, Roll Observers are designated district-wise, yet it is seen that login credentials linked to these observers are being accessed from a central location in Kolkata. Login Data is being misused to generate queries and specifically target a certain community at the direction of ECI’s political masters in Delhi. Should this matter be independently examined, it will be established that the tower location and IP address of the login device differ from the actual location of the concerned roll observer.
The Election Commission derives its legitimacy from PUBLIC TRUST, not POLITICAL PATRONAGE. We shall pursue this matter before the highest court of law. Further, any person aligning themselves with or acting at the behest of Zamindars of Delhi will face stringent and uncompromising legal action. Brace yourselves!
I thank Hon'ble Finance Minister @nsitharaman for so carefully listening to my speech. Though I wish she'd listen as carefully to the people of Bengal when they ask for their MGNREGA, PMAY, PMGSY and JJM dues. The Finance Minister says I 'twisted facts.' Let me untwist them for her.
She's absolutely right, there's no GST on fresh liquid milk. But perhaps she hasn't seen the mother who can't afford fresh milk, who stretches her budget by mixing powdered milk for her infant. That powdered milk? 5% GST. Zero tax on what she can't buy, 5% tax on what she's forced to buy.
She's correct again, textbooks have no GST. But the graph paper a student uses for his/her math assignment? 12% GST. The laboratory notebook for the science practical? 12% GST. The crayons for the drawing class? 12% GST.
On healthcare, she's technically accurate as always; consultation and treatment are GST-free. But the oxygen cylinder that keeps a COVID patient alive? 12% GST. The insulin injection that prevents a diabetic from dying? 5% GST. The anesthesia for the surgery? 12% GST.
And yes, funeral services are exempt. But the agarbatti we light for our departed? 5% GST. EVEN GRIEF HAS A PRICE TAG IN ‘NEW INDIA.’
This, Honourable Finance Minister, is EXACTLY the problem I was highlighting. Until you understand the difference between what's written in the GST Act and what's written on a poor family's grocery bill, you'll keep living in your India while we live in ours. Thank you for proving my point better than I ever could.
Maybe in @nsitharaman’s India, babies drink only fresh milk. In real India, poor mothers dilute powdered milk with water to make it last. And that attracts 5% GST.
Maybe in her India, stationery is free. In our India, pencils, crayons, graph books, and lab notebooks are taxed at 12%.
Maybe in her India, healthcare is tax-free. In our India, anaesthetics, medical oxygen, insulin, and diagnostic kits all carry GST.
Maybe in her India, even death is dignified. In our India, incense sticks at a funeral are taxed too.
These are the Two Indias @abhishekaitc spoke of. And Madam Finance Minister, whether you acknowledge it or not, both Indias exist.
Ah, the beauty of two Indias- in one, a comedian is questioned for talking about the ‘TWO INDIA’ divide. In the other, the same debate becomes the perfect PR for a tour announcement. Democracy does have a sense of humour. Wishing you house full shows and a smashing tour ahead @thevirdas !
Sebaashray 2 continues its journey with the core belief that no citizen should be denied care, dignity, or hope because of circumstance. Across our camps, people are receiving free consultations, health screenings, and essential medicines. And now, by restoring something as fundamental as sight, we are helping restore confidence, independence, and opportunity.
In Falta alone, 1,104 citizens received free spectacles as a gift of clearer days, safer work, and brighter tomorrows. For many, this means reclaiming everyday independence long denied by untreated vision loss. With the blessings of those we serve, Sebaashray will continue to walk this path, guided by the conviction that public service finds its highest purpose in improving lives.
Despite a clear order from the SC and its own formal communication, the @ECISVEEP has failed to release and publish the list of LOGICAL DISCREPANCIES that it was mandated to publish by the 24th January- today in all Gram Panchayats and municipal wards.
The same software that allegedly assessed and analysed over 7 crore enumeration forms and miraculously detected “logical discrepancies” within one hour on 16 December immediately after the draft rolls were published now seems to have lost its logic, speed, credibility and confidence.
Three obvious questions therefore remains stark and unanswered:
1️⃣ WHAT EXACTLY IS THE ECI TRYING TO HIDE ?
2️⃣ If DISCREPANCIES could be identified in one hour, why does it take days to DISCLOSE them?
3️⃣ Is the @ECISVEEP looking for LOGIC or hiding the DISCREPANCIES?
The overwhelming response from Nandigram reflects the trust you have placed in us and we are truly grateful. It is a privilege to stand in service of the people. Barring tomorrow, the Sebashray camp in Nandigram will continue until 31st January. I sincerely thank our doctors and medical professionals for their unwavering commitment to humanity. Sebashray stands because of their dedication. ❤️
We wholeheartedly welcome the landmark direction of the Supreme Court to the Election Commission. This much-needed intervention has dealt a decisive blow to the CRUEL, POLITICALLY MOTIVATED and deeply UNJUST SIR process.
The SC has rightly ordered that the names of those arbitrarily slapped with the vague, sinister label of “Logical Discrepancy” must be publicly published. The BJP-ECI combine has been exposed for the BANGLA-BIRODHI ZAMINDARS they are.
It has been clearly directed that the list of unmapped voters must be published, BLA-IIs allowed to attend hearings, hearing venues significantly increased, Madhyamik admit cards accepted as valid ID, and written receipts issued to every summoned voter.
This is a judicial slap across the face of the Election Commission, and the people of Bengal will deliver an even sharper democratic slap to the BJP at the ballot box.
