Have been reading the drafts prepared by the Union Home Ministry to substitute the Indian Penal Code, Code of Criminal Procedure and Indian Evidence Act. Stunned to find that there is a serious attempt to quietly introduce very harsh and draconian anti-citizen provisions in these efforts. Earlier there was Sedition Law; now, in the name of withdrawing those provisions, they are introducing more severe and arbitrary measures in the proposed Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which can affect citizens more gravely.

The current Acts should be decolonized not only in form but also in spirit. Urge the jurists and public activists of the country to study these drafts seriously for democratic contributions in the realm of the criminal justice system. My colleagues in the Parliament will raise these issues at the Standing Committee when these will be deliberated. Laws need to be improved in light of experiences, but colonial authoritarianism should not be allowed to have backdoor entry at Delhi.

The acquittal of #KamduniGangRape accused by Calcutta HC is unexpected & unfortunate.

Facts:
1. Claims that capital punishment was not given due to lack of evidence is totally removed from truth. Based on the investigation by @CIDWestBengal, fast track court had given death penalty to all the accused.

2. Mousumi & Tumpa Koyal are not commoners - they’re politically motivated. Whom did Mousumi campaign for? What is Akranto Amra? Did she receive @DilipGhoshBJP at #Kamduni?

3. Bit rich for @BJP4India (that felicitated Bilkis Bano’s “Sanskari brahmin” rapists) to hold GoWB responsible for this order.

4. The @MamataOfficial Govt is moving Supreme Court challenging the HC’s order.

But MORE FAKE JOB CARDS were found in Double-Engine state!

1. Why did Central govt not freeze MGNREGS funds to @BJP4India states on same pretext?
2. Will there be @CBIHeadquarters probe into MP, UP, Gujarat fake job cards also? If so, when? If not, why?

Industrialization took place in Bengal under the able leadership of the then CM Bidhan Chandra Roy. During the 34 years of @CPIM_WestBengal regime, industrialists were harassed by trade unions of miscreants. A strike if their demands are not met. Because of these, many factories have been locked out. There were nearly 1.5 lakh factories in Bengal in the late '80s. It had dropped to 20,000 by 2010-11.
