Universal boss Donna Langley reveals she spent $15 million acquiring a film she hadn’t even watched and it went on to gross 30 times that amount.
Interviewer: “Everyone thought you overpaid for the film. They said you spent $15 million to secure the project coming out of Toronto, and you went on to gross 30 times that amount. What is it about that specific film that intrigued you?”
Donna Langley: “Well, I bought it without seeing it, which is common, especially for a small film like that.”
“The movie screens and then there’s a bidding war. And so you have to move very quickly.”
“As a leader, I have to be very incredibly decisive. I have to trust the executives who are pitching it to me and advocating for it.”
“I knew I wanted it. I knew where I wanted to play, and I knew we wanted it. So we were going to go get it.”
“The executives do. The Focus team. They’ll go into a meeting room themselves, they’ll start running the numbers.”
“I think they were up all night. It’s what they live for.”
Interviewer: “That should be a movie on its own.”
Donna Langley: “It’s a great part of what that team does. It’s really fun.”
Interviewer: “It’s an MBA on the job of learning how to negotiate.”
Donna Langley: “Very much so, very much so.”

Universal exec Donna Langley reveals Christopher Nolan makes her read his scripts alone on his couch, with no warning about what she’s about to read and admits the process terrifies her.
Interviewer: “At the very beginning of the process of The Odyssey, I understand that you went over to Nolan’s house and read through the entire script with him and his partner Emma. Is this an industry standard?”
Donna Langley: “No, that’s quite unusual.”
Interviewer: “Tell me about it.”
Donna Langley: “It’s terrifying.”
Interviewer: “You’re terrified?”
Donna Langley: “Of course. I’m terrified.”
The Universal executive explained that Nolan invited her to his home to read the scripts for both The Odyssey and Oppenheimer. But he wouldn’t tell her what she was about to read beforehand.
Donna Langley: “I went by myself on both occasions. And I didn’t know what I was going to read because he doesn’t say ahead of time.”
She arrives, sits on Nolan’s library couch, receives the script, and gets left alone for a couple of hours to read it.
Interviewer: “And they leave you to it, with a cup of tea.”
Donna Langley: “With a cup of tea. Exactly. Exactly.”
“It feels very old school. And it’s very intentional. And it makes you pay attention.”
“It’s slightly intimidating, but I think in the best way possible. It makes me feel very alive.”
The interviewer then asked whether she was worried about reading a script she didn’t like and having to tell Nolan.
Donna Langley: “The scripts are so good. I’m not afraid of being able to converse afterwards. Because there’s so much to talk about and they were each brilliant.”
“I’m walking in blind to a situation like that. It’s exhilarating and intimidating all at the same time in the best way.”
A 67 year old woman made so much money selling gossip about her neighbors that she bought TWO houses.
Ross Mathews: “ So, here’s your question. Drew teed up a story about a woman who sold enough of what to buy two homes? Did she sell gossip, used celebrity napkins, or human hair? What do you think it is?”
Audience member: “Human hair.”
Ross Mathews: “ She’s locking in on human hair. Okay.”
Audience member: “ Good luck.”
Ross Mathews: “ Okay, that’s gross.”
Audience member: “ It is gross, but you’re not selling celebrity used napkins.”
Ross Mathews: “ Well, you’re right. And you’re also not selling human hair. You’re wrong, the answer is gossip.”
J. Cole explains how Mark Pitts protected him from the dark side of the music industry.
Host: “ You know, Cole, I’ve heard you in the past describe people in your life as… uh… vessels. God talking to you. And in what ways does Mark specifically feel like… like that void or… that voice rather… like…”
J. Cole: “ Man, he was like… he was protection, guidance, like a steward. You know what I mean? Like… like a… like a blocker. Like in football, like the fullback for the running back. You know what I mean? He was like the… I’mma get there before you. I’mma clear things out, and then it’s almost like the fullback could turn around and be like, ‘Go right, or hit this hole right here.’ It’s like he was helping me as much as he could to get out of my own way and to allow the world to like give me space to even find out who I was.”
DAVE RAMSEY CHALLENGES A 21-YEAR-OLD WOMAN FOR IGNORING HER BOYFRIEND’S RED FLAGS BECAUSE SHE’S AFRAID OF ENDING UP ALONE.
A 21-year-old woman called in for advice about moving to Texas with her boyfriend, but her story quickly raised serious concerns.
She had saved thousands of dollars for their future, while her boyfriend worked just 20 hours a week and refused to discuss his financial situation with her.
Dave warned her against putting her future on hold for a man who wasn’t willing to be transparent about his finances.
But things took an emotional turn when she admitted that, despite all the red flags, she was afraid to leave because he treated her wonderfully and she worried she might never find someone else.
Dave wasn’t convinced. His response?
“He actually doesn’t treat you wonderfully.”
Should a woman risk her financial future for love, or is fear of being alone making her ignore the red flags?
Jerry Seinfeld reveals his four favorite Seinfeld episodes of all time.
Jerry Seinfeld: “Okay, my four, not in chronological order. And I actually gave this a little thought.”
Host: “Wow. Did you do a little work? What thoughts did you give it?”
Jerry Seinfeld: “I gave it some thought.”
Host: “Did you watch any?”
Jerry Seinfeld: “No, I don’t need to watch it. I did them. I was there.”
“The Contest. The Soup Nazi. The Merv Griffin Show, because I love that premise. And the Marine Biologist.”
Host: “Wow. Do you want to go over how those came to be?”
Jerry Seinfeld: “The Contest doesn’t require an explanation. The Soup Nazi doesn’t either. Just the idea of the word ‘Nazi’ in the episode, it’s a Jewish show. It was just such a great, fun thing to do.”
“The Marine Biologist, that was the best story tie-in finish to an episode we ever did. Jason’s speech at the end makes that.”
Larry David: “Yeah, that’s true.”
Jerry Seinfeld: “And the Merv Griffin Show, because Kramer finds the Merv Griffin set in a dumpster and sets it up in his apartment. So just based on that one sentence, enough said.”
“They’re all high-concept shows.”
“I toyed with The Boyfriend and The Merv Griffin Show. I kind of went back and forth because I really liked The Boyfriend.”
Host: “Yo, that’s a penalty. You can’t mention the fifth one. You can only say what you said.”
Jerry Seinfeld: “I’m just conversing. It’s a podcast.”
Jennifer Lawrence reveals she received some of the nastiest backlash of her life for saying she was Team Jeremiah in The Summer I Turned Pretty.
Alex Cooper: “Were you Team Peeta or were you Team Gale?”
Jennifer Lawrence: “I was Team Gale. Even after he killed my sister.”
Alex Cooper: “Still rooting for him?”
Jennifer Lawrence: “Yeah.”
Alex Cooper: “Do you think that will cause controversy on the internet?”
Jennifer Lawrence: “I can’t say, because I said that I was Team Jeremiah during The Summer I Turned Pretty, and the level of hate that I got was bigger than any controversy I’ve ever been involved in in my life.”
Alex Cooper: “Talk to me about that.”
Jennifer Lawrence: “I feel like I was just rage-baiting slightly, because I did it with my friends. It was just like, ‘I like Jeremiah,’ and they’d be like, ‘Ah!’ I thought it was innocent.”
“People were like, ‘You should die. You should die.’”
Alex Cooper: “It is wild to insert yourself in that, especially who you are.”
Jennifer Lawrence: “Oh, so you agree with them?”
Alex Cooper: “No! I’m just shocked that you just sling it out there like, ‘Oh, I’m just going to tell you what I think.’”
Jennifer Lawrence: “How on earth would I have assumed that such a thing would cause such a reaction? I’ve pissed off the public many, many times. I’ve been famous for decades. It never occurred to me that that would be the number one where people were just like, ‘I wish you had never been born.’”

Despite the ups and downs, she says she wouldn’t change a thing because the experience taught her so much and ultimately made her stronger.
People aren’t struggling because they don’t know how to manage money anymore.
They’re struggling because everything costs more, but their income hasn’t caught up.
Groceries are expensive.
Rent keeps going up.
Bills don’t stop coming.
And somehow, you’re still expected to save money, invest in your future, and enjoy life once in a while.
You cut back on eating out, cancel subscriptions, stop buying things you enjoy, and start questioning every little purchase.
Then someone who hasn’t struggled financially in years tells you, “You just need to be better with money.”
BETTER WITH WHAT MONEY? AND HOW MUCH MORE OF THEIR LIVES ARE PEOPLE SUPPOSED TO SACRIFICE JUST TO SURVIVE?
Growing up without a father can make you dangerously vulnerable to the wrong people.
In this conversation, Teri Cole explains how growing up without a protective father can leave you vulnerable to the wrong people.
She opens up about trusting others too easily, ignoring their repeated behavior, and getting into relationships with men she felt she needed to manage or change.
Sometimes, the patterns you carry into relationships started long before you met your partner.

Trevor Noah Exposes the One Secret Every U.S. President Shares
Trevor Noah: In the United States of America, if you want to win an election, all you need to have is a strange voice. Simple as that. You want to be president of the United States, get a strange voice, you're done.
“Yeah, forget policies, forget ideas, that's boring. You come out there, here are my boos: "Normal-sounding ass bitch." No, you come out there with a strange voice, the people love it.”
“You realize there's been no American president who has a normal speaking voice. None. Now, you can go back as far as you want. None of them spoke normal.”
“None. Go back like, who? Like, like JFK. JFK, he didn't speak normal. He had that thing like, "Ask not..." That's not normal. I don't care what anybody says, that's not normal.”
“You telling me that man was standing in a McDonald's ordering food with that voice? 'Cause they're like, "Could I please get a number one medium with fries? And I'll also have a McFlurry, please. What do you mean the ice cream machine is broken?" That's not normal.”
“No American president speaks normal. None. Bill Clinton, he didn't speak normal. He always did that thing where it sounded like he was trying to seduce the audience, you know? They're like, "I do not have sexual relations with that woman..." What are you doing?”
“No American president spoke normal. None. Barack Obama, he didn't speak normal. He always did that thing where it sounded like his voice was buffering: "Uh... as Americans, uh, we got to try to get a faster internet." That's not normal.”
Here’s a question for anyone who says young people should stop buying coffee and eating out if they want to build wealth.
If someone spends $150 a month on small pleasures, cutting those expenses saves $1,800 a year.
That’s useful money.
But if their rent increases by $300 a month, that’s an extra $3,600 a year before they’ve bought a single coffee.
Why is the conversation always about the little things people buy to enjoy their lives, rather than the enormous fixed expenses consuming their income?
PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY MATTERS. BUT YOU CAN’T BUDGET YOUR WAY OUT OF EVERY STRUCTURAL PROBLEM.
A lot of people aren’t choosing between buying a home and renting anymore.
They’re choosing between renting a place they can barely afford and moving somewhere they don’t actually want to live.
Move closer to work, and the rent is ridiculous.
Move farther away, and you spend hours commuting and more money on transportation.
Choose a cheaper neighborhood, and you might lose access to better schools, reliable transit, or the people who make your life enjoyable.
Then someone says, “Just move somewhere cheaper.”
CHEAPER FOR WHOM? AND WHAT EXACTLY ARE PEOPLE SUPPOSED TO GIVE UP NEXT JUST TO AFFORD A PLACE TO EXIST?
“My Ex is a Pedophile” Rosie Nelson on the chilling moment a hidden SD card changed her life forever.
“So, I started looking, there were a couple of boxes. I lifted the lid of the first one, lifted the lid of the second one, and there it was, in with a whole load of electrical cables and stuff”
“Grabbed it, walked off. Um, when I got to where I was going, looked in the back and there was something in there and I thought, "Well, that's a bit odd." Um, so I pulled it out and it was an SD card, I think you call them, the tiny little cards that go into whatever.”
“So I thought, it's a bit strange. Um, so I put it into the, iPad, the Apple iPad, and this box popped up, bottom left, and there was a small child there.”
“So, I ripped it out of the, computer and sat there and just thought, "Of course it's not, that's just absolutely mental." That's just ridiculous. So, I put it back in and this time a box popped up with a load of titles.”
“And all of the titles, every single one was something, you know, pretty horrendous. Um, and I just thought, "Oh, my God, this is actually what I thought it was."
“Yeah, you just can't believe it. Can't believe what you're seeing. You can't see that and ever forget what you've seen. It never leaves you.”
