Today I resigned from @AmnestyUK after 40years.
As a women's rights specialist I could no longer condone their failure to balance women's rights with trans rights

Dear @PompeySteph: Saying that men who identify as women comprise the "most discriminated and marginalised community" because they can't abrogate/appropriate women's rights is a profound insult to women and to every group that is discriminated against and marginalized.

[Women's Rights Network - WRN @WomensRightsNet]

In 2025, we wrote to the CEOs of every major high street retailer to ask them to restore single-sex changing facilities to keep women and girls safe.

🚩 Not a single CEO replied to us.

We know from our work in leisure centres that sexual crimes are significantly more likely in mixed-sex settings. Our reports show that 86-88% of sexual crimes in leisure centre changing rooms (in England, Wales and Northern Ireland) occurred in mixed-sex changing villages. In Scotland, 100% of the sexual assaults recorded in leisure centre changing rooms were in mixed-sex facilities.

🚩 The failure to provide women and girls with safer, single-sex changing rooms is a safeguarding RED FLAG.

Look out for our street stalls on your local high street and watch out for our campaign messages on social media.

We’d love to hear what you think of your local high street stores’ changing facilities.

Retailers must recognise women’s need for privacy, dignity and safety on the high street. They must ACT NOW! It's basic safeguarding.

🚩 Women should not have to discuss intimate details of their mastectomy within earshot of a male in the next cubicle when they’re being fitted for a post-surgery bra.

🚩 Mums and daughters shopping for a first bra should not have to whisper their conversation because there’s a man in the changing cubicle next to them.

🚩 Teenage girls should not be put at risk of a sexual predator putting his phone over or under the cubicle in the changing room.

🚩 No woman should be put at risk of sexual assault or rape in a fully lockable floor-to-ceiling cubicle installed because the retailer thinks it’s ‘inclusive’ to provide mixed changing rooms.

We are calling for the restoration of single-sex changing rooms in high street stores and supermarkets.

No woman or girl should run the risk of being the victim of a sex crime just because she wants to try on new clothes. 2/3

📣 NEW CAMPAIGN! 📣

Introducing the Women’s Rights Network Red Flag Campaign: Retail

Millions of women and girls are being put at risk of sexual crimes in mixed-sex changing rooms. Our new Red Flag Campaign Retail focuses on the safety of women and girls in high street stores and supermarkets.

Mixed-sex changing rooms attract sexual predators looking for easy access to women and girls in a state of undress. Our research in Leisure Centres found that 86-100% of sexual crimes in leisure centre changing rooms occurred in mixed-sex facilities. (Our leisure centre research is published on our website.)

Now we are turning our attention to the dangers of high street changing rooms.

🚩🚩🚩 Women and girls are experiencing voyeurism, illicit photography, even sexual assault, because retailers have abandoned single-sex changing rooms in favour of ‘inclusive’ mixed-sex changing facilities.

Retailers have a duty of care to their customers and we say denying women the privacy, dignity and safety of a single-sex changing room is a dereliction of their duty to keep us safe on their premises. 1/3

🚨THIS is what @10DowningStreet @DHSCgovuk should be prioritising - a public inquiry to pull the #NHS back from its near total capture by gender ideology.
❌ NOT introducing amateur & unnecessary #ConversionPractices criminal legislation which will only reinforce that capture.
“There urgently needs to be an investigation of why every system that should have protected children, young people, & indeed young adults has failed,” Baroness Hilary Cass told The Sunday Times".
@UKLabour eventually caught up that we were right about Self-ID being incompatible with single-sex provision, the scandal at GIDS etc.
It will possibly catch up soon that we're also right about the harms of the CP Ban Bill & the need to tackle transactivist/Stonewall ideological capture of the NHS, govt & public bodies...
But hell's teeth, it's hard work...

Children as young as 12 routinely being prescribed puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones on the NHS, against all the rules, is a staggering scandal. Instead, the whistleblower found herself investigated by the NHS and called a transphobe. Just jaw-dropping.

When developing leisure centre plans, @WomensRightsNet recommends a hybrid model of single sex changing rooms and mixed changing rooms to allow everybody to change for their swim safely and comfortably @WRNBarnet

🚩 🚩 🚩 Brighton Council is prepared to put women and children in harm’s way in its pursuit of mixed-sex changing rooms at its leisure centre. Its risk assessment stating that a mixed-sex changing village will have a ‘positive benefit’ flies in the face of the actual evidence that sexual predators use mixed-sex changing rooms to target women and children in a state of undress.

Our research of police data from all over the country shows that 86-88% of crimes in changing rooms in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, and 100% in Scotland, took place in MIXED-SEX facilities. (Single-sex changing rooms accounted for 12-14% of changing rooms crimes in E, W and NI.)

The council seems hell-bent on designing-in harm to its female residents and will require the leisure centre operator, Freedom Leisure, to provide extra staff training. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Here’s a thought: how about designing OUT the harm by providing single-sex changing rooms as standard, with separate family changing rooms for those who need it? Seems obvious to most ordinary people that deliberately designing a changing room that will attract sexual predators might (will) cause problems down the line…

The safest changing room is a single-sex changing room.

🚨Hilary Cass has called for an independent inquiry into how Brighton GPs were allowed to prescribe cross-sex hormones to children as young as 12.“There urgently needs to be an investigation of why every system that should have protected children, young people, and indeed young adults has failed,” she told me.

The employment tribunal between Dr Sarah Redvers and NHS Sussex has highlighted how regulators and the NHS collectively failed to stop prescribing of puberty blockers and hormones against national guidelines - for years - and how instead the person raising concerns was accused of transphobia and herself investigated.

Dr Redvers sat down with me for her only newspaper interview about her treatment in a scandal which, Cass now says, “dwarfs” that of the Tavistock’s GIDS.

Me for the Sunday Times…

[Dennis Noel Kavanagh @Jebadoo2]

This has been going on for years. Let us not forget Sonia Appleby, (also a safeguarding lead) at the Tavistock raising extremely similar problems years ago.

[teresa smith @treesey]

‘For Cass, the scandal that has unfolded in Brighton “dwarfs” that of the Tavistock’s Gids. She called on the GMC to immediately suspend Hall. “I really would want to ask why he still has a licence to practise.”’

This is insanity. Introducing self-ID in this way is far more dangerous than walking it in through the front door.

@matildagosling .@WomensRightsNet research demonstrates that women and girls are at risk of sexual violence and voyeurism in mixed changing villages. By adding some single sex cubicles you will remove this risk. What are you waiting for?
