FPL through the lens of decision making
Planning, transfers, captaincy and the thinking behind each move
Process over hindsight
Building Decision XI in public.
I've played FPL for a long time and had some pretty good overall ranks, but one thing I've become much more interested in over the last few years is how I actually make my decisions.
GW 7
I'm slightly annoyed I seem to have got the Gvardiol pick wrong on WC, but IPS (H) is too good a game to not play him.
I'll probably have to mak a decision there going forward.
Happy with the rest.
Think the low ownership thing gets overdone a bit.
I’d rather just have a strong template and 2-3 players I genuinely prefer to the popular picks.
They don’t need to be 5% owned either. Even 30-40% can still be enough to make a difference.
I don't mind missing a £0.1m rise if it means I get another day of team news, especially in weeks with European football.
Obviously there are times when an early transfer makes sense, but I think that part of FPL is overplayed
Espescially after wildcarding and wanting to roll
One thing I want to build into the Decision XI tool is a record of the worries I had when I made a pick
Picking Calafiori over Gabriel is a good example. Was I right to gamble on the minutes, did anything change, did CL effect anything?
I want to be able to tell the difference.
23/24 - Rodrigo Muniz
24/25 - Chris Wood
25/26 - Harry Wilson
I was too stubborn to bring them in for their epic runs. I can't see why I should change for De Cuyper 😂
Anyone actually confident predicting Gvardiol's minutes at the moment?
I knew it was a risk when I picked him on WC6, but it's still one spot I'm unsure about.
Interested to know if others are happy taking that risk.
@FPLMate The 4 FTs bit is interesting.
It comes down to Szoboszlai information. If he's fine, could be worth rolling. Don’t think there’s much in that team that needs fixing.
If he is out for a while, there are loads of decent midfield options anyway.
Nice spot to be in with 4 FTs.
@FPL__Lad This is basically how I’ve been trying to look at FPL this season.
The outcome can make a good decision look terrible and a bad one look brilliant.
I've started recording my decisions and reasoning to see if it helps me in the future.
@FPL_Eire Interesting you mentioned Groß for rank protection. I’m starting to think he’s pretty close to fixture-proof now.
I played him against Arsenal and got the haul, so Liverpool/City wouldn’t really put me off.
@FPL__Raptor 23/24 - Rodrigo Muniz

@AK_FPL1@FPL_Timmy@FPLWolfy Completely agree.
Creators give their opinion and obviously that can influence people, but they’re not managing anyone else’s team.
If you decide to follow someone else’s advice, that’s still your decision. You’ve got to own the outcome as well.
Disappointing week so far, but I'm interested to see how my WC holds up over the next few weeks
Obviously want the points, but a big part of my thinking was building a squad I could hopefully leave alone and keep rolling transfers.
Think GW9/10 will tell me a lot more than GW6.
@FPL_TomHadley Strange isn't it. But good decisions don't always end in good scores in this funny old game. Team looks great going forward though.
I'm on a red, but happy with my team going forward, after playing WC this week.
@FPL_Data Nice little O'Shea haul coming off the bench too.
A waiting game for Szobo information now I guess. Plenty of nice options if he's out for a bit though.
@FPL__DB Quite similar to mine. Was the João Pedro benching based on the false leak?
I'm interested, how many weeks were you looking ahead when planning the wildcard?
@LetsTalk_FPL Actually not too bothered about Gvardiol being benched today.
Brought him in on WC but had him benched this week anyway, so if he was going to miss one this was probably the ideal week.
Still one to watch for minutes, but hopefully he’s back in for the next few.
@FPL__Raptor Maybe a weird take, but after bringing Gvardiol in on WC and benching him this week, I’m quite happy he’s on the bench today.
Still a worry for his minutes, but if he was going to miss one, Liverpool away is probably the one.
Hopefully means he starts the next few.
