@IrishRainforest Our recent walk in a (supposed) Coillte forest was completely silent. We saw one robin and one blackbird the whole afternoon and of course this appalling sign did not add much joy to the oppressive doom and gloom.
A fantastic morning today at the launch of the pilot programme focused on School-Related Gender-Based Violence! Well done to Hugh Fitzmaurice who represented the Activating Social Empathy Programme on the panel of speakers! #empathy#ASE @UNESCO_CFRC #ionbhá
Tonight - the persecution of Irish speakers under British rule.
Pádraig Óg Ó’Ruairc joins Myles to talk about the numerous ways the speaking of Irish was discouraged and curtailed over the centuries.
@esmaugireland@DiMupersario @deshocks Here’s another stat you could quote: ‘the overwhelming majority of foreign-born men living in Sweden are not guilty of crimes.’ That’s not as incendiary though, is it?
@esmaugireland@DiMupersario @deshocks Let’s talk stats then, Google throws up an approximate number of 5000 convicted of rape in Sweden. Based on your ‘stats’ 800 of those 5000 weren’t born there. So, I estimate it was SO much safer before then, eh? Where were the other 4200 rapists from then?
@DiMupersario @deshocks Those ‘facts’ are a complete invention. There are plenty of Irish men in the news recently convicted of absolutely heinous crimes against women and children and guess what. They were born here.
@AMurphyValinor @deshocks @yvonneredmond Local residents on twitter have confirmed they're witnessing daily buses arrive, so certainly pre-planned and not very local.
Carina McNally, a book reviewer with the Irish Examiner, chats to Athlone radio about some of her top Irish books, including some Mercier titles.
