Citizens Demand Scrapping of #Rishikesh-Bhaniyawala Four-Laning Through Elephant Corridor; Raise Ecological, Legal and Public Safety Concerns:

Yesterday morning during our press conference in #Dehradun, we demanded that the four-laning of the Rishikesh–Bhaniyawala road through the ecologically sensitive Shivalik Elephant Reserve be be scrapped.

We raised serious ecological, legal & public safety concerns. We urged NHAI & the Government of Uttarakhand to rethink the project before irreversible damage is caused.

We hope that some of you will join us this evening at 4 PM outside NHAI Office in Engineers Enclave, Dehradun on July 8, 2026.

This evening, outside the NHAI Office, we said that destroying more than 4,000 mature trees during the monsoon to widen a road that passes through an elephant habitat reflects a deeply flawed model of development. We questioned why forests and wildlife should pay the price for the Rishikesh Bhaniawala road widening project that many commuters say is not needed. We also made it clear that we will continue to stand for the protection of our Jal, Jungle and Jamin in #Uttarakhand.
