DeerAware: Raising awareness of deer-vehicle collisions across the UK. Stay informed, drive safely, and help protect deer and road users. #DeerAware#DriveSafe
IF YOU HIT A DEER, KNOW WHAT TO DO!
✅ Park safely and use hazard lights.
✅ Call 999 if anyone is injured or the deer is blocking the road.
✅ Never approach an injured deer or put an injured deer in your car.

Don't Swerve for Deer
If a deer runs out, brake firmly and stay in your lane. Swerving risks losing control or colliding with another vehicle. Most deer impacts cause less harm than a high-speed swerve.
Keep control, brake straight, and stay calm.

Dawn and Dusk
Low light makes deer hard to spot and they’re most active just when visibility is reduced.
Use high beams where safe and look out for eyeshine at the roadside. Slowing down slightly in half-light conditions gives you more time to react and avoid harm.
#RoadSafety
Look for the Signs
Warning signs show where collisions are most common. Even if you drive the same route daily, stay alert. Where you see the signs, reduce speed, scan verges, and use full beams when safe. A few seconds of extra awareness can make all the difference.

Where there’s one deer, there’s often more.
If you see one deer crossing, slow down, others may follow close behind.
Collisions often happen when drivers speed up too soon after the first animal passes.

⚠️ Watch out for deer! ⚠️
As nights draw in, deer are harder to see and more active near roads.
🚗 Slow down at dawn & dusk
💡 Dip lights if you see a deer
🛑 Don’t swerve suddenly
Stay alert, stay safe.

The days are getting shorter and nights drawing in and we are approaching the peak time for the deer rut which means more movement of deer across our road networks. Take more care and be extra vigilant!

🚗🦌 Watch for Deer on the Roads! 🦌🚗
NatureScot, Transport Scotland, & Traffic Scotland remind drivers to stay alert for roe deer, especially at dusk during May & June. Stay safe & help protect wildlife by slowing down & staying vigilant!

Would you know what to do in the event of a collision with a deer on a Hampshire Road? 🦌
Deer vehicle collisions peaked in May & November last year.
As we head towards May, we're offering advice to road users. See here >>> https://t.co/aQJHZt94iO

NatureScot is working with Transport Scotland & BEAR Scotland to keep deer and drivers safe. Mobile variable message sign units are used to reduce the risk of vehicle collisions and protect native deer and drivers' safety.

Drivers in north-east Scotland are being warned to take extra care at a high-risk location for deer/vehicle collisions. We're working with @transcotland & @BEAR_Scotland to display warning messages on electronic mobile message signs on the A9 at Navidale: https://t.co/iWsIswdium
The rut is here! Sadly, this brings a spike in collisions with deer on our roads.😞 How can you help?

⚠️ With an estimated 115-202 deer vehicle collisions per day across the UK, now is the time to act. Don't let road traffic accidents harm deer & drivers. Take steps to be #DeerAware in order to reduce collisions & help make roads safer. https://t.co/kCUZjdb5lW
It’s #WorldAnimalRoadAccidentAwarenessDay today, & although it’s important to drive deer aware at all times, knowing the key times of year & day you need to be especially careful is extremely beneficial! Read the article from @BritishDeerSoc here: https://t.co/vdCFUJFfGs
