When I first looked at this line I initially thought, “wow, this is a huge line, Houston probably rolls” but the more I dug in the more I realized this wasn’t the case. When these two teams first met Iowa State won 57-53, a game that was ugly and showed how good these defenses both were. In that game, Houston was -2, so a 7-point away to home swing (especially in the big12) doesn’t seem out of touch one bit. Not the mention that Houstons closest home game was a 15-point win over UCF. Both teams shot poorly in that game and I fully expect that to continue tonight.

Houstons offense has been mediocre at best when watching them play, however their ability to grab offensive boards really strengthens their #’s when looking at the metrics. Iowa States one and only weakness is their defensive rebounding, however T.J Otzelberger has had his team gang rebound as of late, helping them in this category.

Comparing both teams I would give Houstons defense the edge, whole giving Iowa States halfcourt offense the edge. In the halfcourt Houston can get extremely stagnant, and it isn’t a smart plan for a no middle Iowa State defense that forces you out of the paint. I dont think either team finds success scoring at an insane level and consistently. So why not play the under? Well both teams foul a good amount, and I expect this to be a close game where late free throws could sneak this game over.

I confidently can back Iowa State, knowing the line isn’t fishy at all, and simply giving Houston the home respect they deserve. I dont love fading Houston, nevermind at home, but an Iowa State team that has been better on the road then any other big 12 team catching 9, i’ll bite. Both teams matchup extremely well and I cant see either side running away with this one.
