UNCONSCIONABLE AND BRAZEN INSOLENCE OF THE STATE.

The Nigerian State is captured wholesale. The intemperance and audacity of APC as a party and government are mythical. The judiciary was the first victim that saw the replacement of Walter Onnoghen the erstwhile Chief Justice of the Federation (CJN). He became a casualty of political powerplay occasioned by the impetuous invitation extended to him by Nyesom Wike the former Rivers State helmsman to commission some infrastructural projects completed by him for the judiciary as a means of establishing a fiduciary relationship with the Supreme Court.

With Onnoghen out of the way and with a rubber-stamp National Assembly and a compromised electoral umpire the stage was set for further incursion into absolutism. To consolidate a firm grip, Mohammed Tanko Ibrahim the immediate past CJN had to step aside for Olukayode Ariwoola to reset the judiciary to expectations. The exit of Zainab Bulkachuwa from the court of appeal threw some spanners in the works for planned complete dominance.

The searchlight dragnet broadened as the confirmation of Monica Bolna’an Dongban Mensem who was next on the line was foot-dragged for fear and uncertainty of her loyalty.

Prominent Nigerians took it upon themselves to vouch for her character in the public space one of whom was a former Gov of Kaduna State Col Dangiwa Umar (Rtd)who was her vociferous adherent. Behind the scene players were former FCT Minister Jeremiah Useni and Simon Lalong the immediate past Governor of the State. While Dangiwa’s call could be devoid of any pecuniary interest, the other's intentions could as well be anything but noble more so the issues from the plateau currently manifesting can not be divorced from their intrusion. It is without doubt that the Nigerian judiciary has lost its bite since the inception of the APC government.
The majority of the judgments emanating from these courts are appalling and dangerously skewed to favor the APC. They are devoid of the basic ingredients of Justice. Transparency, equity, fairness, and decency are conspicuously absent in most rulings.

The last straw that broke the camel's back was the assertive choice of the Senate President and the speaker of the House of Representatives and their arbitrary conduct. State capture is now completed and the dismantling of democratic structures for subjective aggrandizement is an ongoing process set to usher in a one-party state.

The irony of these shady maneuvers is that while the party still prides itself as the only operative party in the country, it tends to forget or learn from history so soon that what goes around comes around and that the surest way to a fall is through unbridled pride. As the saying goes “ Pride goes before a fall”
