Attention cryptocurrency users: Delta Police is warning Ledger hardware wallet users about a new scam targeting customers.

Fraudsters are posing as Ledger Customer Support and contacting victims by phone, attempting to trick them into sharing their wallet’s recovery (seed) phrase. Scammers can use a seed phrase to access and steal cryptocurrency stored in their wallet.

These calls may appear convincing, as fraudsters may have access to personal details obtained from previous data breaches, including contact information and which Ledger products you may own.

Keeping Delta Safe Community Update – August 14, 2026⁠

From responding to calls to proactive enforcement in our neighbourhoods, Delta Police officers are on the frontline every day, taking action to address crime, prevent harm, and protect our community. Here are some recent examples:

Drug and Weapons Seized During Traffic Stop | File 26-15081
C Platoon (Patrol) members conducting a traffic stop recently identified several additional offences upon approach, leading to the seizure of drugs and prohibited weapons from the occupants. Charges related to weapons possession, drug trafficking, and breaching court-ordered conditions are pending as the investigation progresses. Proactive enforcement efforts like these help identify criminal activity, hold offenders accountable, and enhance safety for everyone on our streets.

Patrol Support Team Assists in Recovery of Stolen Vehicle | File 26-14220
While conducting surveillance in a neighbouring jurisdiction recently, members of our Patrol Support Team (PST) located a vehicle recently reported stolen. PST members established covert surveillance to make an arrest; however, the vehicle was abandoned, and the investigation was assumed by the police of jurisdiction. PST routinely works alongside partner agencies, supporting investigations and sharing information to help combat crime across communities.

Drug Seizure Following Traffic Enforcement | Files 26-14146
A recent proactive traffic stop conducted by D Platoon (Patrol) officers resulted in the arrest of two individuals breaching their court-ordered release conditions, and the seizure of approximately 238 grams of illicit drugs in a child’s lunch kit. The investigation remains ongoing, with charges being pursued. Targeted enforcement and proactive policing continue to play an important role in disrupting drug trafficking and reducing the impact of illicit substances in our communities.

#NewsRelease: Missing Person to Locate

Delta, BC – The Delta Police Department is requesting the public's assistance in locating 29-year-old Ryan BAINS.

On Sunday, August 2, 2026, the Delta Police began a missing person investigation after BAINS left his family residence in North Delta shortly before 8:00 a.m. Family members reported him missing after they were unable to contact him for several hours.

The investigation has revealed that BAINS parked his vehicle on Annacis Island and began walking toward the Alex Fraser Bridge at approximately 8:20 a.m. on August 2, 2026.

BAINS is described as a 29-year-old South Asian male, 6'1" tall, with an athletic build, short black hair, facial stubble, and brown eyes. At the time he was last seen, BAINS was wearing black pants and a black t-shirt.

Investigators are seeking witnesses or dash camera footage from anyone who travelled over the Alex Fraser Bridge on August 2, 2026, between 8:20 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., when Ryan's unoccupied vehicle was located by police. If you saw Ryan on the bridge sidewalk, or if you have dash camera footage from that period and have not yet spoken with police, please contact the Delta Police Department at 604-946-4411 and reference file number 2026-14400.

The Delta Police Department’s (DPD) Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit (CVEU) recently hosted a Lower Mainland District Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Joint Force Operation (LMD CVE JFO) at multiple locations in Delta. Our team worked alongside partners from Vancouver Police, New Westminster Police, Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement (CVSE), Surrey Bylaw CVE, and Township of Langley Bylaw CVE.

This joint enforcement initiative supported the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance's Operation Safe Driver Week, a North America-wide campaign targeting high-risk driving behaviours such as speeding and distracted driving.

Commercial vehicle enforcement officers are specially trained to identify commercial vehicles displaying obvious or apparent safety defects that warrant further inspection. During the operation, CVE officers conducted targeted enforcement that resulted in:

▪️ 24 commercial vehicle inspections
▪️11 vehicles placed Out of Service
▪️116 violations noted
▪️33 violation tickets issued

Tickets were issued for offences including distracted driving, speeding, seat belt violations, insecure cargo, overweight vehicles, and defective brakes. Inspectors also identified critical safety defects that led to vehicles being placed Out of Service, including a semi-truck with a severely damaged steering tire and defective brakes that were not identified during the driver's required pre-trip inspection.

The DPD and our partners continue to prioritize commercial vehicle safety through proactive enforcement, education, and collaboration to help keep everyone on our roads safe.

Keeping Delta Safe Community Update – July 31, 2026⁠

Every day, your Delta Police work proactively to prevent crime, disrupt criminal activity, and improve safety throughout our community. Recent examples include:

Scott Road Boost & Bust
Our Patrol Support Team (PST) worked alongside Surrey Police Service (SPS) and local retailers on another “Boost & Bust” retail theft enforcement initiative along the Scott Road Corridor. The operation focused on preventing retail crime, supporting businesses, recovering stolen property, and holding repeat offenders accountable. The initiative resulted in 11 arrests and the recovery of nearly $4,000 in stolen merchandise. Partnerships between police and local businesses are key in reducing the impact of organized retail crime in our community.

Catalytic Converter Theft Investigation | File 26-13285
While conducting covert surveillance as part of a catalytic converter theft investigation, B Platoon (Patrol) members observed two suspects using a drone to survey a commercial property. Following a traffic stop, officers arrested both occupants after locating brass knuckles in plain view and search incidental to arrest located several stolen catalytic converters. The investigation remains ongoing. The DPD remains committed to identifying criminal activity before harm is caused to local businesses and properties.

Project E-Ghostrider
Members continued targeted education and enforcement focused on illegal e-bikes, electric motorcycles, and electric kick scooters. Over two and a half days, officers connected with more than 50 individuals and utilized a combination of covert vehicles and high-visibility patrols. The initiative resulted in 35 warning violation tickets, 8 verbal warnings, and 2 tickets for multiple offences, including one totaling more than $1,000 in fines. Education and enforcement efforts will continue as our officers work to improve safety for all road users.

Delta, BC – Statistics Canada has released the 2025 Crime Severity Index (CSI) for jurisdictions across Canada. Delta's CSI was 59.2, well below both the national (75.0) and British Columbia (92.4) averages, continuing to place Delta among the safest communities in Canada.⁠
⁠
The Crime Severity Index is a national measure used to compare crime across communities. It considers both the volume of crime and the seriousness of offences reported to police.⁠
⁠
Compared with 2024, Delta's CSI increased by 6.7%. The increase was largely influenced by two homicides in 2025, compared with none the previous year. Because the Crime Severity Index assigns greater weight to the most serious offences, even a small number of incidents can significantly affect the overall score.⁠
⁠
Delta Police investigators have made significant progress in both homicide investigations. Charges have been laid in one case, while the second, a targeted shooting linked to the B.C. gang conflict, remains under active investigation. Neither incident represented an ongoing risk to the broader community.⁠
⁠
"Crime trends can fluctuate from year to year, but our commitment to Delta remains constant. We continue to focus on where we can have the greatest impact by supporting victims, preventing crime, holding offenders accountable and working with our community partners to keep Delta safe. While we monitor the numbers closely, they are only one measure of success. Delta remains one of the safest communities in British Columbia because of the dedication of our employees and the strength of our community", said Chief Constable Harj Sidhu.⁠

Current-Year Crime Trends
Delta Police has also released its Quarter 2 Crime Statistics Report, which provides a current year look at crime trends and compares January to June 2026 with the same period in 2025. The complete Quarter 2 Crime Statistics Report can be found on our website, with key highlights below.

Persons Crime
•Monitored person offences increased by 17%, from 276 to 324 files.
•Assaults increased by 9%, from 228 to 249 files.
oIntimate partner and family violence accounted for a significant portion of assault files. Charges were forwarded in 82% of intimate partner violence assault files reviewed in Q2.
oMany incidents involved disputes between people who knew one another.
oAlcohol or drugs were identified as a contributing factor in some files.
•Sexual offences increased by 49%, from 37 to 55 files.
oIn nearly a third of the files, the victim knew the suspect, and some files were also historical reports.
•Robbery increased by 100%, from 9 to 18 files.
oIn Q2, 1/3 involved shoplifting incidents that became violent after store or loss prevention staff intervened, and 2 files were connected to Facebook Marketplace transactions.
oSuspects were identified and charges forwarded in nearly half of the files.

Property Crime

•Monitored property offences decreased by 8%, from 1,296 to 1,188 files, including decreases in residential break and enters, shoplifting, and mischief to property.
•Theft from vehicles increased by 18%, from 147 to 174 incidents; nearly half of Q2 incidents involved vehicles left insecure, and several localized clusters were identified.
•Commercial break and enters increased 19%, from 48 to 57 files. Other break and enters increased 17%, from 23 to 27 files. Most incidents occurred in industrial areas, apartment common areas, construction sites and storage facilities.

Other Areas
•Intimate partner violence files increased by 58%, from 64 to 101 files, and remain an area of focused police response, investigation, and victim support.
•Cybercrime decreased by 2%, from 340 to 332 files, while fraud decreased by 8%, from 305 to 281 files.

Calls for Service
•Calls for service decreased by 1%, from 12,166 to 12,081, indicating that overall demand for police service remained generally consistent.

Delta remains one of Canada's safest communities, but maintaining that position requires ongoing partnership between police and the public. Residents can help by reporting suspicious activity, securing homes and vehicles, removing valuables from sight and looking out for one another. Anyone experiencing intimate partner or family violence, or concerned about someone who may be at risk, is encouraged to contact Delta Police.

As part of our ongoing commitment to keeping Delta one of British Columbia's safest communities, the Delta Police Department has purchased two mobile Public Safety Camera (PSC) Trailers for use in deterring crime, supporting investigations, and enhancing our emergency response when a specific public safety or operational need has been identified.

The program follows a targeted, evidence-informed deployment model and is not intended for broad or indiscriminate surveillance. Privacy and responsible use are central to the operation of Public Safety Cameras, with several safeguards are in place such as:

▪️Footage only being collected to support public safety and investigations.
▪️Recordings being securely stored and accessed only by authorized personnel.
▪️Footage only being used for lawful investigative purposes.
▪️Recordings only being kept as long as required by legislation and policy.
▪️Trailers will only be deployed where there is an identified need, and not for broad or continuous surveillance.

Each trailer, including its onboard technology, cost approximately $160,000. Funding for one trailer was provided through Provincial Public Safety Initiatives, while the second was purchased through Delta Police's existing approved operating budget.

Ongoing connectivity, maintenance, and upkeep will be covered within the existing budget, minimizing additional operating costs while providing two mobile platforms that can be deployed throughout Delta.
