Welcome to the official page of Democracy Defenders. We are a civil movement that aims to protect democracy in #Georgia 🇬🇪 and end the oligarchy regime.
The questioning of Giorgi Mshvenieradze, head of “Democracy Defenders” @DemDefGeo , before a magistrate judge in the “face masks case” has concluded. Speaking to the media, he said:
“The question was raised: who organized the 2024 protest? I named the organizer - Mr. Irakli Kobakhidze. With his November 28 statement, he practically mobilized the entire country and brought people to the streets to defend Georgia’s European future. I hope he is asked why he did this, and why Georgian Dream continues to act against the Constitution.
There were also some questions regarding procurement documents. I shared what information I had, but there was no document indicating that anyone had purchased something illegal.”
For the context: On August 27, Ivanishvili’s Prosecutor’s Office announced that, at its request, the bank accounts of seven Georgian NGOs had been frozen.

About 20 protesters were detained on Rustaveli Avenue during a demonstration against the plenary session where the illegitimate government declared Georgia the initiator of the 2008 war.
Today, the Georgian Prosecutor’s Office, within the framework of an absurd investigation, froze the bank accounts of 7 independent organizations that do Georgian work, serve Georgian citizens, and fight for Georgia’s European future.
We will not cease our work.
🔴 The #Tbilisi City Court has granted the Prosecutor’s Office’s motion to freeze the bank accounts of 7 CSOs as part of a sabotage investigation.
❌ Authorities allege the groups bought gas masks, goggles, respirators, masks & pepper spray for protesters.

17 years ago today, Russia launched a full-scale war against Georgia.
In just five days, hundreds of civilians were killed and thousands were forced to flee their homes.
The August War was yet another reminder of who the real enemy is.

Today, the regime backed down once again, and the unlawful judiciary was forced to release one of our prisoners of conscience, Giorgi Akhobadze.
The regime will back down many more times — and we will fight until the end.

Giorgi Akhobadze spoke about his mother, who was seriously ill and under his sole care, as he was the only doctor looking after her. He stated that he bore the responsibility of caring for his mother, who had suffered a stroke, lost her ability to speak, and was bedridden.
Shortly after his detention, his mother passed away.
Prisoner of conscience Giorgi Akhobadze was released from detention half an hour ago.

Congratulations to Ukraine's new Prime Minister @Svyrydenko_Y on your appointment. Your leadership comes at a decisive time for Ukraine. Georgia stands with Ukraine - for freedom, sovereignty and our shared European future. 🇬🇪🇺🇦
The case of Dr. Giorgi Akhobadze
During today’s noisy court session for prisoner of conscience Giorgi Akhobadze, a key detail emerged: Akhobadze claims officer Giorgi Gureshidze was directly communicating with Levan Maisuradze, the new head of the Patrol Police, during his arrest. He believes Gureshidze was one of the officers who planted narcotics on him. It also came to light that the activist’s biological sample was forcibly taken twice.

Georgian Dream loves lies 🫢
By the way, while nominating Givi Mikanadze for the so-called Minister of Education, Science, and Youth, the Georgian Dream Prime Minister claimed that Mikanadze had defended his PhD dissertation in Amsterdam.
However, just a couple days ago, it was revealed that he does not actually hold a PhD diploma. 🫢
True. This means that a superior can dismiss a public servant from their position at any time. Typically, these dismissals happen because the person doesn't serve the interests of Georgian Dream (GD). For example, there are numerous cases where public servants were fired simply for signing a petition in support of Georgia’s Eurointegration. And no matter how they try to fight this injustice in court, they have no way to hold accountable the person who dismissed them, the public institution, or even the party.
Can you believe that?
Georgian non-governmental organizations, remain unwavering supporters of Georgia’s European integration. We continue to fight for the values that connect us to Europe on the basis of freedom, dignity, and the rule of law.

According to sources, the Russian puppet regime in Georgia demanded 300 million USD from Tornike Rizhvadze, the former chairman of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara, who recently attempted suicide.
Based on the information we have, "Georgian Dream" has also demanded billions and hundreds of millions from other former officials and businessmen. These sums were allegedly meant to be handed over to the clan of Irakli Kobakhidze, the so-called Prime Minister of Georgia.
Just imagine the scale of corruption in Georgia — these people have stolen hundreds of millions and even billions from the state budget!

Our Position on the Upcoming Local Elections❗️
This fall’s local elections in Georgia are set to take place under conditions that make free and fair competition impossible. We must recognize the following:
1. Local observation by neutral civic actors is effectively banned under laws adopted by the ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party.
2. International monitoring is absent, as GD refused to invite OSCE/ODIHR and justified this with baseless arguments.
3. Voter intimidation is a recurring tactic—GD coerces citizens into voting through pressure and fear, and this will likely repeat.
4. Control at polling stations is used to influence votes, with GD affiliates pressuring voters on-site.
The Russian-influenced Ivanishvili regime has the tools to manipulate the elections:
1. It can forcibly mobilize state-dependent voters.
2. Legal changes now allow misuse of public employees and state resources to rig results.
Current conditions in Georgia is very harsh:
1. A repressive political environment prevents fair opposition participation.
2. Political prisoners, including opposition leaders and prisoners of conscience, remain jailed.
3. Laws heavily restrict political parties and civil society.
Participation in these elections will:
1. Legitimize a deeply flawed and manipulated process;
2. Strengthen authoritarian practices and discredit genuine democratic engagement;
3. Mislead our Western partners;
4. Divide the opposition and society at large, when unity is vital against the Russian-backed regime.
We must not cooperate with the Russian authoritarian regime installed by Ivanishvili in Georgia.
We call for a boycott of this fall’s local elections.
Giorgi Mindadze’s mother is standing outside Gldani Penitentiary No.8 to wish her son, a political prisoner of the regime, a happy birthday. Her son turns 21 today.
