NDMA CEO @HaredAHassan today accompanied Cabinet Secretaries Hon. Beatrice Askul and Hon. Geoffrey Ruku, together with ASALs and Regional Development PS @harsama_kello and Special Programmes PS @_IsmailMaalim during an engagement with the Senate Standing Committee on National Security, Defence and Foreign Relations, chaired by Isiolo Senator @Fatuma_Dullo.
The discussions focused on the drought situation in the country and the ongoing response measures. Although most ASAL counties have received some rainfall since February, temporarily easing environmental stress and slowing the deterioration of key drought indicators, hot and dry conditions persist in several areas, sustaining drought risk and delaying full recovery of livelihoods.
The Government continues to implement coordinated multi-sectoral interventions aimed at protecting lives and livelihoods while strengthening long-term drought resilience across affected counties.

NDMA CEO @HaredAHassan today made a courtesy call on Habaswein Deputy County Commissioner Mr. William Langat. Wajir County is currently classified in the 'Alert' drought phase, with significant challenges in water and pasture access. Livestock migration to neighbouring counties has been noted.
The discussion focused on activation of the Sub-County Steering Group to strengthen drought response coordination and information sharing.
The CEO emphasised the need for adherence to livestock migration protocols and negotiated access to water and pasture in host regions to prevent drought-related conflict.
