Although tonight’s outcome is painful for me and all of us who worked so hard in this campaign, I am proud of the grassroots campaign we built so quickly and the voice we gave to thousands of Arizonans who are hungry for a different kind of leadership and an end to a corrupt status quo that has failed us.

A growing majority of Democrats support the progressive agenda our campaign fought for. Despite tonight’s setback, we must and will continue to organize to enact it — from Medicare for All to abolishing ICE, impeaching and prosecuting Trump, ending military aid to Israel and our complicity in genocide, and banning Super PACs and corporate political spending.

I am so grateful to all of the people who devoted their time, money, labor, and hope to our movement. The trust you put in me is a profound honor and your belief in our capacity as everyday people to come together to overcome great obstacles and change the conditions of our lives is so powerful. I’m sorry we came up short this time. Stay in the fight. There will be better nights to come.

I called Greg Stanton earlier to concede and congratulate him on his decisive victory. As I always pledged, I will do my part to make sure that we keep this seat in Democratic hands in November and help win the majority to block Trump’s authoritarian drive.

While this is the end of our campaign, the movement we are part of continues. The dream of making our nation a Beloved Community is alive as long as we carry it, and I will always continue serving as best I can in the fight to realize it. Thank you to everyone who has been and will continue to be part of that struggle. Onward together.
