🔍 How do democratic institutions function during wartime?
Last week, together with @DemocracyR and @pravo_center , we presented a report on how Ukraine’s parliament, government, judiciary, media, local self-government & civil society operate under war conditions.
🧩 We've created easy-to-navigate infographics — check them out: https://t.co/K7Ry32RMFI
#IGF2025 The #CADE session has kicked off with powerful testimonies & recommendations from civil society organisations from across the globe. How can we make sure that cyber laws protect human rights activists, journalists, and citizens transacting in the digital space? 👇#EUSEE
Tech companies have been warned ⚠️ With one exception, they’ve failed to act ❌
This is no longer just a misinformation problem. It’s conscious disinformation.
Study after study, the evidence is mounting ➡️ chatbots are disinforming users on election-related questions.
DRI and @AFRICTIVISTES tested 5 of the most popular chatbots with 14 questions about Senegal’s recent parliamentary elections. The results? Troubling 👇
🔻 Only 21.43% of chatbot responses were accurate. ⁉️ More than 1/3 were misleading or completely off-topic.
The problem worsens in local languages:
🇫🇷 In French, 41% of answers were partially or completely incorrect.
🇸🇳 In Wolof, that figure rose to 47%.
Purpose, clarity and coffee fuelled our 2025 Annual Meeting! ☕
For four days, 50+ democracy advocates, policy minds and comms pros gathered to discuss DRI.
We left with clearer plans, stronger bonds, and strategies to boost our impact.

🇵🇱 Poland is undergoing a democratic reset. Will it succeed?
Sunday’s presidential election could make or break efforts to restore the rule of law. Outgoing President Duda has blocked key reforms.
Will democratic repair move forward or stay stuck?
🧵⬇️
🔹 Nawrocki stands alone in defending PiS’s judicial overhaul.
🔹 Mentzen & Nawrocki back a confrontational presidency. Others favour cooperation or neutrality.
🔹 Corruption isn’t a hot topic, but most candidates oppose the political capture of state institutions.
🇵🇱 Poland elects a new president — what does that mean for Europe? 🇪🇺

Huge thanks to our partners Gesellschaft für Freiheitsrechte, who led this lawsuit with skill and determination.
And to the amazing Berlin community of online researchers who showed up in court to support.
We felt it! 🧡

🚨 Update on our case against X: A Berlin court has confirmed that researchers can enforce their right to access platform data in their own national courts.
No need to sue in Ireland, where X is based.
Here’s why this matters (1/4)
The court didn’t grant our emergency request for X’s data on the German elections (citing lack of urgency).
While we did not get the data, we cleared the way for others to get theirs.
That is an important strategic win!
