At its most simple tariffs are a tax on the consumption of whatever from whereever, it's about the trade-off then.

@BenAdamsO_O @JustinWolfers The first point would be the benefits of trade, they are broad, the reach far, they are universally accepted. Tariffs always have a cost, always create inefficiency, but you can argue there might be a time and a place ie. protectionism around a vulnerable industry.
